Looking for something just to raise poles, don't want to be jumping big and don't want to shell out for wings so what do other people use?

if it's really little fences, I use upturned buckets, barrels, bins etc. Have also used wheel barrows and more "unusual" items (bathtubs etc) or piles of tyres.

Plastic Plantpots are great for raised poles, straw bales, empty plastic barrels, tyres, crates, palettes, one side hung on post and rail fences but please please whatever you do make it safe, it must always be knockable and not likely to cause injury if the horse lands on it, I know of some very nasty accidents which have happened due to home made jumps. Have a look on ebay there are some cheap upright stands on there and if you are any good at DIY have a go at making them yourself!

Tyres
You can get them free from anywhere that changes tyres, they'll usually help you put them into the car too! Just stack them up to the height you need.

potties for tiny jumps, empty platsic storage boxes for bigger ones or tyres that are stackable and you can make any type of jump!

We own a garage and half our jumps are tyres! I tend to use the real wings for the main jump, then a stack of tyres in front to make spreads etc.

Garages have to pay to have their tyres removed, so they would happily give them away. I have XC jumps that are tyres in three heights - small car, 4X4, and lorry! I want some tractor ones next, but we don't get them at the car garage!

Before I had "proper" jumps I always used tyres as you can make them any height you want and they're so easy to get hold of. I had different sizes (little car to lorry!) to stack too so I could get pretty much any height I wanted.
I just pulled out some tyres again for raised poles with my girly as wings seemed to turn her insane!
The only negative thing I can think about them is if you have a complete lack of steering there's a tiny chance that your horse could step into the ring of the tyre/trip but I've never experienced that before (and we have no steering installed!) and they're a lot safer than other types of make shift wings.

Tyres, cones, plastic bins, bottle crates, buckets, planters, plastic feed bins, those road barrier things for larger jumps, old tool or storage boxes. We have one set of wings & everything else including the poles are diy/junk. We can do an 8 fence course with a double, triple & some spreads in, even the wings cost £5 & some tlc, the rest are cast offs.
