Alternatives to.....

Ok so need a new way to hold my reins.
Having stupid cast off tomorrow with any luck and will just have a brace for my pinky and ring finger.
So will be able to ride yay!!!
Don't want to put any pressure in my pinky finger so was thinking about holding rein as normal but between middle and ring finger - where you would usually hold curb rein in a double or maybe with buckle end coming out of the bottom of my hand and through between my thumb and index finger - hard to explain but kind of like holding them back to front?
What do you think? If I was to do a dressage test should I speak to the judge first and explain why I am holding my reins funny?

I dislocated my thumb and tore ligaments in little finger so had that taped to ring finger so I had to hold them with index and middle until I was healed. I did event like this and no problem. i just explained to dressage judge why i could not wear gloves and that was fine.

My daughter needed to protect her ring finger for a long while when it was crushed by a stamping pony. (Long story - no-one's fault.)

She held the affected rein passing between her middle and index fingers and out over the thumb as normal. We found it was easier to get a "feel" on the rein that way. I cut up a pair of black goves so she could get them on without pressing on the affected fingers and she had black bandages on underneath.

You couldn't really tell she was holding her reins wrong and in the later months she competed quite successfully in show jumping and pony club stuff. We did start off by telling judges / instructors etc why she was holding her reins oddly but we gave up when no-one seemed to notice!

Be careful it doesn't become a habit though. My daughter still sometimes picks up her rein wrong and she hasn't needed to hold her reins that way for well over 6 months!
