Hi there, question for you all, what thickness of aluminium is needed to fit into a horsebox floor?

we are fitting this on top of the existing wooden floor and the man is putting in 3mm aluminium? is this sufficient?? i cant seem to find anything about this on the net so thought would ask you lot?!

i put a 3mm floor down in my lorry on top of proper flooring boards (the ones that kind of lock onto each other?) My local welder/blacksmith provided and cut the sheets for me and the size was what he advised having done a few horse lorries before.

Hi, mine has aluminium chequerplate sp?? over my wood floor. It was fit all new together so the wood floor is new too, not sure about the thickness though.
Im told it is very strong so if your wooden floor is in good condition then Im sure 3mm is fine but no expert on this.

why would you want to put aluminium over a wooden floor?

surely you'll just make the wood rot quicker?

have been told that its better to have some sort of wood seperating the aluminium and the metal of the trailer as it can corrode if rubs together?

My horsebox was built by a professional company and they told me I was getting an Ali floor which I presumed was all ali, no wood. I didnt want this due to the give in the Ali (heard some horses just dont like the new Ali floors in Ifors) and my horse needs no excuse for messing arround!!
When I picked the wagon up, it was ali over wood which I was glad about. A friend did his like this too after getting advice from another horsebox company.

we tend to put the ali over wood in our boxes, or infact over the steel floors thats there. 3m should be fine but remember to keep an eye on the wooden floor.

If you just have ali the noice from the road is really loud
