I used them on my horse when he was showing at Dublin Horse Show, they're very light and he went quite well in them but he only had them on for a couple of weeks as they wear very quickly and you can't put stud holes in them.
Are they more expensive?? Beau has the 2nd largest 'normal' size on at the moment and you can tell by how he walks that he feels the weight, he was a lot lighter (obviously) when he was unshod, but for where we are now I prefer him shod.
Gen has just had a pair of aluminium natural balance shoes on. They are making a big difference to his movement and also help to lesson the concussion, something I am constantly concerned about having lost my previous super horse to navicular. They seem to be wearing as well as his other shoes but then I have his feet done every 4/5 weeks anyway.
I think they were only about £5.00 more than a normal set of NB shoes.
thanks very much for all your replies!
Was interested in them because they seem to reduce the concussion.
My horse is barefoot at the moment and I was thinking of shoeing him over the summer, didn't really want to use "iron" shoes if I could avoid it.
Yes Folara, I'm in the same position as you. I lost a fantastic mare a few years ago to navicular and I'm now paranoid about lameness, concussion etc.
Thanks for your reply.
Oh yes - the other thing is that they don't have toe clips, so when my cob wriggles around with his feet in the lorry travelling to a show, he occasionally pushes them back which means I could do with a travelling farrier to come to shows with me.
I have them on one of my mares, they made a huge difference in her movement. I recomend them. My farrier is able to put stud holes in the shoes for me, they work great.
They do wear a bit more quickly but the difference in my horse is worth it.
