My new farrier has made my horse some spiral horseshoes out of Aluminium to try and make her more comfortable. She has very odd front feet and the larger foot is compressed on the inside and affects her shoulder muscle which is overdeveloped. Were not trying to change her confirmation just improve her foot and comfort as shes nearly 23 but interested to hear of the use of Aluminium. He is a new farrier to me but one of the top remedial farriers so although im anxious am hopeful.i realise they are lighter but any other benefits.or thoughts

some of the horses on my yard are always shod with aluminium they do little road work and the farrier thinks they put fewer stresses on 'bad' feet so come off less.

I can't picture this spiral shoe though at all?

Fwiw one of Frank's hinds is compressed on one side, it is also the side he is a bit lame on if you flexion test so there is something going on higher up in that leg but I do let his foot be. Is it definitely a hoof issue rather than the other way round with her?

Aluminiums are used predominantly in racing - the lighter weight the better. I've always used them on my shetland. Any others I have shod are done in lightweight steels - hard wearing on the roads but a fraction of the weight of normal shoes. Aluminiums will wear out in a couple of weeks on the roads.
