Does anyone know anything about this club ie is it worth joining them? I have seen their adverts for events and visited their website but I haven't had any reply to messages I have left. Checked on the BHS website for RC contacts and they aren't there so I wondered if they are no longer running. Any other recommendations in that area please? (South Birmingham)

I've never heard of it before to be honest and I've been in the South Birmingham area for a few years now! But the website looks reasonably up to date (September 2012) so they might still be going!

Solihull Riding Club is probably the biggest and best in the area, just down the M42 from Alvechurch. There is also Bromsgrove which isnt too far from Alvechurch (http://bromsgroveridingclub.co.uk) but Solihull is probably one of the biggest with events running all year round so you will get the most out of your membership there.

Thanks for the info. I only looked at them as a friend of mine had attended some of their events last year and said they were good. Will definitely look into the two you have mentioned.

Alvechurch is still going. Events are held at the top of Cobbley Hill, Alvechurch.

It's a fun and friendly set up catering for all round pleasure riding. It is always well attended and they have various end of season championships.

Parking is on the field so they will cancel in wet weather. You won't find a terribly high standard of horses there, but everyone has fun.

That sounds like my type of standard as I'm no Carl Hester or William Fox-Pitt. Do they hold much in the winter by hiring indoor or all-weather arenas or is it mainly summer stuff? Thanks

I don't think so. The schedule I looked at had the events starting in April and running through to September.

It has been many years since I took a horse to Alvechurch, but with 2 babies about now, and the ground not far from me, I will be taking them to see their first sight of a show next summer.

You won't be able to miss me - just look for a short fat woman on the end of a rope connected to a very large 2 year old part bred shire, we will be in the led hunter ring -hopefully - or we could be absailing anywhere on the showground in fact.

It is an ideal starting point, as is Bromsgrove Riding Club, and I do think it is important to try and support these clubs that are run by so many kind people.
