Alvescot Stud

I only know them by reputation as they are quite local to me, they come highly recommended so are worth a visit if you a considering a stallion there - I think they might also cater for AI if you want to use semen from elsewhere. They will have mares back for foaling down too.

I sent my mare to them 2 years ago as I used one of their stallions. They were very friendly and down to earth. They did a good job, got her in foal first time and I was very happy.
Really nice family.
I used Alvescot Paper Moon and I am very happy with the result (coloured in sig)

They had lots of nice foals when I went there and I think they breed a few for themselves every year.
I would recommend them as Mother Hen says they do have a good reputation.

I have heard, through the grape vine that any stock they have for sale will just be ordinary as they retain the best for themselves. Any ideas?

I don't think so. Yes they have kept some on in the past, and of course in their shoes you would keep those with most potential, but in the current climate I imagine pretty much anything is for sale at the right price.

When I purchased mine they were very helpful. I had pictures and pedigrees sent by email until I decided which I was interested in.

For my visit they had already brought the selected mares and foals into stables for inspection and I was then shown each in turn loose schooled indoors.

None of the foals I saw were what I would call ordinary. After purchasing a filly foal she was kept at grass livery running with the other weanlings for a year, at very reasonable cost indeed.

Suggest you go and judge for yourself or if you dont think you can take someone else with you aslo.
