Currently have two ex racers although one is more of a fluffy mountain pony, both in lightweights/rainsheets at night. Fluffy little pony I'm not really worried about he's always toasty just the other has such a fine coat and everyone I know is already in medium weights. He never looks unhappy or cold and wet and likes to take his heavier one off when I do try so I guess he will tell me when he needs it. Just looking for some reasurance I'm not the only one with a tb in a rainsheet and I'm just trying to mollycodle him

I must be totally evil then, mine is not rugged yet i am trying to hold off until he is clipped in a couple of weeks. He is definatley not cold and looks the picture of health.

Our girls (both tb) are out 24/7 with just lightweight rugs on and absolutely fine.

Mine are out at night unclipped and unrugged although they can get into shelters. Planning not to rug until they are clipped this weekend.

The tb at work isnt clipped yet and can get hot in his l/w. The chunky idx though gets cold in the slightest of chilly weather

I dont think your being mean. we tend to forget our horses are horses and if they are not clipped they already have their very own waterproof insulated coat on already and they have spent best part of 3 months growing it. Obvioulsy if their clipped they need the protection but otherwise I wouldnt worry to. much, horses can warm themselves up much easier than they can cool themselves down

Mine has only just started to have a mediumweight on overnight (she's out 24/7) - until this week she's been in a lightweight and been absolutely fine, if not too warm! I've only noticed her being a bit chillier and miserable at night when its started to get colder so put the next 'level' on her for then, and put the lightweight on in the day. She's doing a lot better than our others!
