Hi I've been thinking about getting rabbits for a while but I'm not sure if I have the right home for one. I own 2 cats that are mainly indoors but they do go outside sometimes. I have a medium sized garden with quite a lot of grass. There is space for a hutch and pen. I was wondering if the cats are likely to attack a rabbit? What are the overall costs of keeping a rabbit every month?
Thanks

It sounds fine! Just go for it. Long time since I had a rabbit, but the costs are not very high - food & bedding - from what I remember.
Whether the cats will be OK depends a lot on the cats - wouldn't let the rabbit roam around the garden unsupervised at first. Also, you would need to rabbitproof your garden fencing first - they can dig. Inside the hutch and run your rabbit will definitely be safe.

are you just getting the one rabbit?

I don't keep them myself (did when I was a kid) and times have changed a bit. There are a few posters on here that seem very experienced rabbit keepers, might be worth doing a search on this board for environmental enrichment, keeping more than one etc.

It all depends, can you provide 24/7 access to a predator proof enclosure of 6x10ft, (so minimum of a 6x2x2 hutch attached to a 6x8x3ft run)
Do you know what the correct diet is, have you thought about what types of enrichment you will have?

Are you prepared to have a pair of rabbits as they need company, to neuter them and vaccinate, insure or save for vets fees?

There's lots of useful information on the RWAF website regarding the above.

All free range garden time must be supervised and your cat should never be left alone with your rabbit inside or if they are out in your garden.

Rabbits are far more complex and expensive to keep correctly than most people realise.

I have ten rescue rabbits they cost me around £70 a month not including vets fees or insurance.
