Am I asking the right amount of money?

I have found someone to come and ride Blue every Saturday morning.

I am asking £10.00 per week. This is for her to come up, groom him if she wishes and hack out for as long as she's like. (within reason, she will be riding with my sister or my friend so they will be able to keep n eye on her)

I don't want ANY jobs doing, just that she puts on his rug and turns him out afterwards and that I don't have to be there if I don't want to. (Her Mum will be)

I am also happy for her to take him to shows / sponsered rides / clear rounds etc as I want him to have fun! (she will pay for anything to do with this)


The reason I am asking £10.00 is because I will have to put back shoes on him to do any faster / harder work than he does now.

Is this reasonable?

I've no idea whether the amount is reasonable, although it sounds fine to me. I'd just say have you checked your insurance as money changing hands might invalidate it?

search for the thread on public liability I put up with the BHS. Clarity was given by another poster about money changing hands. It seems to broadly refer to riding schools and not sharing the costs.

£10 sounds really cheap! If you see what riding schools charge in comparison.. Is this per ride or do you charge a fixed rate? I have a fixed monthly rate as my costs don't change!

If £10 a week covers your expenses then that's great for all parties involved, you get a bit of help with your pony, your pony gets to do fun things and a young girl is getting a slice of the dream of "owning" a horse for a couple of hours and not having to pay £25 to trot in circles at a riding school...top banana!

As a child I would have loved the chance to spend time with a horse and to do what I wanted even if it was only once a week. I used to pay £10 for a hack every Sat at a local riding school (20 years ago!!) for about 4 years until I convinced my parents to buy me my own but it's what I would spend all week looking forward too.

You might be helping her and her parents to see what's involved in having your own horse as its not just turn up and ride like a riding school and not many kids realise that .

I agree with above, 10 a week is reasonable and kind of win win for everyone since you would probably not miss one less riding day anyway. I used to pay 15 a week for two days just hacking but that was very reasonable and the horse lived out not on a yard, same as my own horse does now. Personally I would feel bad changing any more for one hack but I know some people charge like 25 a week... I'd rather have my own!
