We live next to a village hall and tonight and every Tues they have dog training sessions

It pisses me off EVERY week the amount of people that take their dogs for training (and good on them) but then stand outside the hall with their dogs on their leads and let them BARK - literally stand there chatting letting their dogs yap and howl - now personally I do not take this behaviour from my dog - she has barked twice at them and has been told off both times and is now lying quietly getting up and looking but not barking - for me barking incessently is as much of a vice as having no recall

So am I right or wrong to think these owners should be making their dogs desist and if they cant they should distract by walking them or interacting with them

yesh. Barking mad. Tis not easy to make doggys top barking.
However, they shud be more considerate of peoples who live next to doggy training place.
Have a word with doggy teacher, tell her you have young kiddies who like to sleep at night, and you like to have nookie, and doggys barking is not on.

Or just tell bout the kiddies? It isn't on. Ruddy dogs yapping. You have a right to mpan Weezy woo...

I think you said it all in the first few words 'DOG TRAINING' - knowing how close you live to the hall I would request to the trainers that part of their session is getting dogs to be quiet. - slinks away as the owner of a dog who 'guards' the road

Sorry to hear your problem, sounds like the social side after the training has got a bit out of hand. They probably havent even given it a thought. I'm sure the trainer will understand if you have a little word.

Other than that get the hose pipe out

My initial reaction was poor you; as if you are anything like me, I cannot bear incessant barking!!

However......you did know that the village hall was there when you moved to this house. Little bit like living next door to a pub ....... oh you do too LOL!!
grin.gif
.....the noise and comings and goings are just something that I think you have to accept when you choose to live next to these community buildings unfortunately.

If they are puppies at a training class and there are loads of them, it really wouldn't be very easy for them to stop the pups from barking.

Not too sure what to advise; except perhaps move?

I think you should have a little word with the trainer- apart from being bloody annoying for you, it isn't a great advert for the dog trainer. Even if they are standing around chatting, these people should still be aware of what their dogs are doing; that's certainly something we were taught at training classes. More than likely the trainer will want to keep the peace with you and therefore will sort it. If not- well, I wouldn't recommend those particular training classes to anyone if i were you!

I take my dog training, (usually get there too late to stand and chat to people), but yeah, if the dog is barking it's usually for some attention, and the owner should distract it.

Could you have a word with the trainer, and get him to tell his clients that the dog training can be done outside as well as in the class?

You missed my point Tia - surely if you are wanting to train your dog you should be aware of their behaviour at all times - Cockergirl understood me!!!

And FYI it isnt just puppies

TBh, it would p*ss me off enormously! At the dog club I used to run, people were not allowed to let their dogs bark uncontrollably, not left in their cars, not chatting outside & not in the hall!
The latter, certainly, resulted in them ingesting a fair amount of Jif lemon, a most swift & effective deterrant!

The instructors at this dog club should be a lttle careful - in this day & age, it is getting harder & harder to find places willing to allow dog-training clubs & a few complaints from neighbours could result in them losng the venue!
Have a word with them & give them the chance to do something about it!

Also, I forgot to add- the age of the dog does not excuse the barking! Any trainer worth their salt should be able to help with puppies barking. After all, it's easier to prevent unwanted behaviours in puppies than correct hardened habits in older dogs, isn't it?

No I didn't miss your point at all. In a round about way I merely suggested that you cannot dictate to people who are going about their business. If they choose to allow their dogs to bark, then that is their decision.....just as it was your decision to move next door to an establishment such as this.

Definatly have a word with the trainers, and if you dont get any joy there take it further(it will count as noise polution).
A bit of barking whena new dog shows up fair enough, but letting them do it all the time their owners a having a chat is NOT on.They should be teaching their dogs that, whatever age they are.

BTW, Weezy- my mum lives next door to a pub and there are laws about noise and unsociable behaviour. So, while you may have chosen to live there, you are entitled to a certain quality of life. Someone else mentioned Environmental Health- if all else fails, they should be a port of call.

I'm sorry but this sort of statement is totally uncalled for. I have clearly and in a perfectly rational manner offered another point of view on your predicament Weezy.... at no point have I said that these people (and their woofing packs) are NOT out of order, I have just said that what bothers you, may not bother them. What you find unacceptable, others may find perfectly acceptable.

And the fact that anyone has the balls to publically agree with anything I say on this forum is neither here nor there, but please don't have a "go" at them for understanding the point I am putting across.

Why ask questions on here if all you want to hear is what you want to hear?

I certainly wouldn't allow my dog to bark incessantly at any time of day or night. I think these people are being very inconsiderate and I'm sure would not be pleased to be on the receiving end. Seems a matter of common courtesty to me NOT to let your dog (or for that matter any other beastie, including children
tongue.gif
) behave in a manner that disturbs other people.

It was said in jest - as Buns understood

My question was whether it is acceptable to allow your dog bark on the lead and not do anything about it - it wasnt about where I live and whether my choice of home was a good idea!

I think your all up each other's arses.....afterall I put in my tuppence worth and got completely ignored, I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing! LOL!!

I mean you all seem to know each other, and just seem to ignore the newcomers......had a nice conversation with another newcomer, but i suspect that was because I was the only person who answered her query more than once!

Don't worry it hasn't put me off.....

And what's with the the quotes? are your short-term memories that bad?

Cobnut I apologise - you posted whilst I was writing my reply and I missed it - I did say a general thanks - only reason I talked directly to Tia is that I thought her answer inappropriate
