i dont know if i have the nerve to hunt my youngster for his first time myself hes 4 and already 16.3hh its a long way to fall lol but im thinking of asking someone to do it for me!

No loads of people do this and for more than just one day, if you know someone I would get them to bring him a few times.

Whilst you may have some very mild wimpish tendancies, I really wouldn't be too hard on yourself :) Confidence is a very fragile thing and can be easily dented by a bad experience so no shame in getting someone else to take him for a spin if you don't fancy it.

I regularly show many wimpish tendancies and although I get frustrated at myself, I try to see it as my conscience/common sense taking care of me, to make sure I stay within my riding limits and not do anything too stupid! My horse agrees :)

Just think, he'll have a better day with a confident rider giving him a nice confident ride and showing him the ropes rather than a nervous mum papping herself and worrying!
I hunt my three yr old (nearly 4), he's only 15.1hh and a very sane cobble. I would noo way of hunted my previous youngster!! A 16.3hh gangly idiot of a tb, in fact I brought him on to a certain point then sold him to someone more in tune with his lunatic ways ;) Nothing wrong with knowing your limitations to a cetain extent :) xx

Ive hunted for years on a14.2 saint of a new forest and have broken enugh bones over the years to make me not have as much confidence anymore and now i have my lad who ive boughr up since 7

If you were nearer, I'd offer to take him for you! Our guys are 17hh plus so yours would seem a civilised size lol!

Joking apart, you're a drag pack aren't you? I think I'd rather take a young horse out cubbing quietly 1st before exposing him to the excitement of a full blown drag line :)

agreed with the cubbing idea. also, you dont have to stay out all day! have a friend to stick by your side and have your port to hand. take it easy and if he's strong/fighting etc just pop home and maybe have someone else try. hunt ppl tend to be helpful and im sure many people will be in the same position as you!
