I'm nervous about getting on my pony for the first time! I'm worried I might be too heavy? He's 14.2hh but fine, what weight do you think would be too much? I don't want to squish him, or him have a paddy because I'm too much for him!

He's well used to me laying over his back..

AHHHH. Nerves!

would be helpful if you could post a piccy (so we can drool over your new pony :D) and give your own height/weight, so would be easier to judge, if you are worried but I am sure you will be fine :p

9 stone would be enough for a fine 14.2 hh.

I'm not good at weights, but if he's fine with you laying all your weight on his back then sitting on won't be any different weight-wise.
I backed my 14.2 (admittedly welsh cob) and I'm about 10 stone, apart from my long legs I fit quite well, and considering the antics he gets up to I'm not too heavy!
For an occasional sit-on it won't matter if you're a bit heavy anyway- I've seen an adult get on an 11hh pony when it was bucking its small rider off, and it still tried to buck!

Depends too on what you class as fine. I'm 9stone & wouldn't get on a 14.2 with 3" withers & spindly legs. But a fine-ish 14.2 that's got no withers & is pretty full up I would.

Really? My friends have a 14.2hh HOYS show pony and I would have thought you could put more on her - she's quite substantial! I wouldn't get on her at 11.5 stone but 9 stone is nothing! (disclaimer; I have no clue - - it just doesn't seem very much).

Haha this made me laugh ;)

Here he is, sorry, would be useful wouldn't it!

I would class him as fine. He's arab x welsh B. He is filling out (is in fact a little more filled out than this photo, which was about 7 weeks ago) still. I'm about 9 & 1/4 at the mo, but was looking to get back down to 9 anyway.

Thank you :)

I think it all depends on how you ride also, I've been 10 stone, but I know I'm not as balanced as I should be - so I'd be less inclined to ride something smaller.
If you are a competent, balanced rider, I'd be happy to get on at 10stone :)
