Having Henry clipped over winter?

He seems ok running about but when he stops he goes all shivery really quickly

Today I took him up to our visitor centre and tied him outside while I popped in to get some food and he was shivering when I came out

Although he stopped as soon as he started moving again.

My logic was that he would dry more quickly after he went swimming, but now I am starting to wonder whether to cancel his next clip (booked for January so plenty of time) and let him get hairy again until Spring.... I am so confused....

Or shall I just keep him clipped and use his dog fleece if it gets really cold?

Help!

Keep him clipped and wearing his jumper as he will just get dirty and smelly as only a spangle can.

Have to say I wouldn't have a clipped dog in winter unless the equivalent of a horse i.e rugged up when outside (and poss inside if its cold).

You're so meeeeaaaannnnn to me

Alright, alright - I'm being fluffy

He lives indoors, when he goes out it's for walks and he moves around quick enough to keep warm then anyway. I'll just have to start driving to the visitor centre when I go so he can wait in the car!

As to grandad sweater - well really, how rude, it is a very stylish piece of high fashion thank you very much

It's either that or I'm going to start sending out bills for all the poo picking he does

I used to have Jasper clipped all year round. He dried out much, much quicker after walking over the farm if clipped.

If it was raining heavily or snowing etc, I would take him out with a dog coat on. Just like horses though, he would run around like mad and keep himself warm anyway.

He always found it too hot in the house with the heating on, over winter, unclipped.

Cool - the consensus is, keep clipping then. Thank you all!

I never had this stress with a lab - am still learning about hairy horrors! But of course it means Henry can go out in his lovely red jumper if it snows....

Are you sure he is shivering 'cos he's cold?? When I open the boot to let Otto out at the woods, he sits shaking like a leaf because he is so excited at the prospect of running around
grin.gif
He isn't clipped and would have no reason to be cold at that point in time!
