Am I being naive/gullible/stupid?

I think you are lovely and kind at heart but you do need to make sure people don't hear about your generosity and start to make up stories just to get a free serving. What may be a good idea is take the stud fee from them and put it in a seperate account, if the mare doesn't get in foal you will have their money sitting in the account to return to them or if it has all gone well then everything is paid up and you can still do your travel to the mares owners with the certificate and bottle of champagne. Either way if you feel you want to be generous to a client you can always give them their money back and this way you won't get named as a soft touch.

If I were a mare owner I would be delighted with you, not many people offer that sort of service.
From a business point of view especially with your concessions NFFR or 50% of the fee when its sent and the remaining 50% on live healthy foal would be better propositions for UK breeders and your bank balance!

For foreign users I think have NFFR only (with them obviously paying freight costs for the semen) would be best, you could say no live foal free return, but at least you will have been paid the original stud fee and have it banked!! There are not that many people who will offer that to overseas users so you would still be poplular and could offer concessions if you wanted to.

When I had my mare put in foal I expected to pay the stud fee up front, and I think people do budget for this to be paid in the year that the mare is inseminated, so you would in a lot of ways be making it easier for people by sticking to the normal way of doing things!
