To enter the Donkey for the Cleveland Bay classes at the Royal Agricultural show? It has always been a dream of mine to show to County level in hunters (need to get my own nerves better too). I know Donkey is not to that standard, however as in the title am I over ambitious entering?

Also is there anyone out there who is coming along on the Monday (July 2nd) who would be willing to 'groom' for me in the ridden class - hubby draws the line at poncing around in show rings - think it's stage fright

Also if I do enter should I go up on the Sunday night and stable her there as my first class the In-hand would be at 9am? Can you use the stable for the entire day?

Thanks

you normally have to check out of your stables by mid-day at over night things, So you would need to book for two nights if you wanted to use it for a whole day. It will say on the stabling form tho.

I dont think you are over ambitious at all, i did the MW Hunter on Bloss at the Bath & West a couple of years ago, and the WH there. It was a fab experience, and altho i didnt get placed, we didnt come last either and i had a great time!

Definitely go to the Royal - it is a fab show, the going is wonderful, the shops are amazing, and I think it is cheaper to enter a class than to buy the tickets so even if you don't do well, at least you have got cheap entry! You usually have to be out of the stables by midday. I am hoping to take my cob on the Monday as well. It is one of my favourite shows, so if you get a chance to go, then you HAVE to go!

Just looked at the schedule and the in hand class is in the Grand Ring (I've never been in there) - and your ridden class is in the equine arena which is the all weather surface.

You should defo go, I mght be tempted to come for the hunter classes if they have any?. Probs be out of out league though but oh well.

Do it - you will always remember it!

We never regretted taking our donkey (an actual donkey not horse

) to the Great Yorkshire Show - he came 5th (well actually last - only 5 in the class

) but it was great fun.

Wanted to do the GYS too, however looking at the schedule it is in hand only and I want to do two classes to make it worth going!!!!!!!!

What's the worst that can happen....you come last....so what. It's a great way of getting in to the show and enjoying a great day out

We did South of England and Heathfield L/R last year with our little Welshie......never thought we had a chance of getting anywhere but we had a great time nonetheless

We only did the one class but it was so worth it!

To see the look on my sisters face as she came out of the main ring with a rosette made it all worth it!!

(If you do decide to go to GYS then let me know - More than willing to lend a hand)

Go for it

you have nothing to lose by entering. Go and have a lovely day showing off your gorgeous girl and if you placed imagine the grin on your face

The Royal is a fabulous show.
Been there many many times, and mother still goes every single year.
You will have such fun, who cares if you dont win!
I wanna compete at Windsor! even if it means in the Shetland Grand National

Best of luck hunny.

With any luck the hunt will do their parade before hand and you will have a Turbo Donkey on your hands woo hoo

Could always do working hunter LOL

Well, the website is not overly helpful....referring to things as 'Showjumping Class 1' etc. But, a quick look at last years SJ'ing results suggests that there is nothing out of the main arena, and thus the classes are 1.30m+
