I share a horse and I keep my grooming kit, head collar, wash stuff, ridng hat, etc in a big plastic storage box in his stable. He just ignores it as his stable is spacious and the box is not in his way.
For whatever reason, he and another horse got put in the wrong stables last night, and the other horse has trashed the box. All my equipment was all over the stable, the big box is broken, I managed to fix my grooming kit box, he ate all of the treats and has chipped some of the paint off of my hat (under the silk) Took my hat to local tack shop for them to check it over and they've advised me to replace it as he has probably trod on it :(

I just feel really upset that this has happened and feel disheartened at the thought of having to replace things that were broken because the wrong horse was in the stable.

No you aren't, I would be feeling the same as you- plus furious. I would probably make a bit if a fuss, especially as horses could have been given wrong hay and feed etc because someone wasn't paying attention.

Well how did they get put in the wrong stables - sounds a bit casual?! I really feel for you, perhaps it would be worth making sure the person responsible knows the consequences of their actions or make the horses owner aware so they can have a word? If it is not an isolated incident then maybe worth finding a safer place for your things but try not to be disheartened - horses like to explore things not intended for them and the treats were no doubt an exciting find for an inquisitive beastie xx

Oh dear. I would be annoyed that they had the wrong stables, as they might have ended up with the wrong feed, etc. Can you ask for a name plate to be put on his stable to avoid confusion?

What a pity about your hat! It would be nice if whoever made the mistake offered to help to replace it for you, but I doubt that you can really expect this. Is there nowhere else you can keep your kit? It is a risk leaving it in with your horse, he could accidentally damage it too, or hurt himself in the process. What about having a locker type cupboard outside his stable instead - perhaps attached to the front of his door if there is room?

Storage can be tricky at some yards: I resorted to keeping everything in the boot of our car for a while at one place as there was literally nowhere.
