Just browsing, not looking to buy this type but do you think it's an honest bet?

Ex-racer, nice video but out of work for 6 months. Can see potential there, so £1k reasonable?

BUT, seller doesn't seem to be very 'private' on Googling the telephone number and the horse was for sale for a fair deal more in July

Do you smell a rat, or am I just too sceptical?
 
how weird! i would say somethings wrong here! i would understand if she had said the truth but why would she lie about only having had him 6 months?
 
Could just be 'circumstances'. Last summer he was being ridden and ready to go, but perhaps for whatever reason he didn't sell, and then the seller was unable to ride, so he got turned away and is now sold from the field.

Not necessarily anything dodgy there. I had a pony to sell one winter and due to sale falling through, and then snow etc, etc, etc he didn't actually go til the following Sept. No fault of his, just circumstance.

I would def go and have a look, but I'm not ready to buy til about next June.

Where does it say she's only had him for 6 months? It says she bought as a project and then he's been turned away the last 5 months. This makes sense, if she bought early summer and got him going to sell in the first ad in July, however then couldn't ride by autumn and so turned him away for the winter and now selling from the field.
 
He looks really nice with a good attitude, but having been 'conned' myself I mistrust any seller now. The seller may have more to say when someone rings about him; who knows. There are many 'free TBs' available all the time from Newmarket, but this one looks like he is well underway of being reschooled/trained.

As the old saying goes 'if it looks too good to be true; it usually is!'.
 
I think they were way out with thier price the first time he was advertised, the only thing i would be wary of is if you look under ad someone has asked a question and from her answer it seems you are not going to be able to see him ridden only lunged.

If the horse has been ridden as much as stated and was at the stage of lightly competed i would expect to see somone ride it i understand not doing alot as unfit at moment but even just walking small trot, i wouldnt pay 1000 for an out of work tb if i couldnt see someone on its back.

I dont like the way she has stated in the answer to question underneath that has had 20 enquiries that smells a bit of classic dealer pressure selling.

I would insist on seeing somebody on its back at least then if anything has gone wrong to make it have to be turned away it wont be you winging your way to the hospital, after all it says no hang ups and easy so shouldnt be a prob.

But i am always overly suspicious and think its a good way to be.;)
 
I was thinking aexactly the same as trinity fox, even if he's not been ridden for months he should still be fine to be sat on and put through his paces just for a short while. If seller is worried he may be silly due to be fresh after so much time off she should get on him a few days before anyone comes to look.

Having just looked at old ad and being super suspicious I wonder if he was turned away due to injury, and owner if being cautious about fittening again as she doesn't want him to re-break.

Agree with this - my friend's 3 year old was started in the summer, turned away for 4 months over winter, and the day he came back to the yard he was sat on and walked around, by the end of the week she was out for a short accompanied hack on him. I would def want to see someone on him and not me or my daughter!
 
There's something not quite right about the way he moves behind in trot imo, but I'm a huge hypochondriac (having lost a horse to an injury even the vet said was nothing) so not always the best one to listen to!!
 
he looks to stride shorter with off side hind, my cob does this but he's 16 so has lost some flexibilty in that leg probably doesnt help that he had bad injury on opposite front when he was alot younger so still compensates with other legs etc.
 
I wouldn't buy a horse that the owner said I couldn't sit on, even if it is being sold from field. I rang up about one last year, owner said that because she'd been out of work for a few months she would need to be lunged for a month before anyone could sit on again. I didn't want to ride as such, just wanted proof that she'd been backed and wasn't a psycho, owner wouldn't let me sit so I walked away.
