Morning all.

My youngster is a rescue from WHW, who I recommend wholly and completely btw. We had our first check up today, and also he's really pleased with how well we're looking after her, he was really quite rude about her!

He said she's got a very flat back, no withers to speak of, is really quite plain and won't make very much! These comments were all thrown in amongst other stuff and maybe he didn't mean to but its my baby he's talking about and now I'm worried she won't make the little eventer I want her to!

Can you look at the photos and tell me what you think? Particularly of her back? Worried I won't be able to ride her! Will she grow out of this? She's only a year old (birthday 14th July).

This is her at about 8 months, I think her back looks more dipped here? (below):

Be honest guys!

How very rude of him! I think she looks lovely. Difficult to assess current conformation when in grazing pose but nothing startling stands out to me. Just you go for it and prove him wrong!

I agree with Fumanchu, I'm sure he would be mortified if he knew he'd upset you and was just teasing you.

Thanks fumanchu, we are showing this summer so she can get out and about =] very excited actually!! =]

Yee maybe they were banter, was just mixed in with his tales of others peoples horses, then whenever he referred to puzzle again he said something else rude!

I would say she's still only young and has alot more growing and changing shape to do yet.
I'll see if I can put a picture of my mare when she was younger, as i'm sure she had a very flat back.

Soon as your horse is over 6 weeks old, honestly, do not try and assess it's confo till it's more mature as sadly, they'll be going through they're 'ugly' stages which really can make the prettiest horse seem odd and ugly! I call it the ugly duckling syndrome.

Anywho. She's fairly cobby, so wouldn't be expecting prominant withers tbh! Her back may be a little flat in that top picture, but not immensely.

Stop worrying and carry on enjoying her :) She is what she is, she'll no doubt make a lovely little all rounder. Obviously not Badminton potential, but if you wanted that, then you'd have got a TB[x] youngster from well known eventing stock. But you chose her because she's what you wanted and it's obvious you adore her!

I'm quite shocked a man from WHW would say that tbh. Sounds a little like he was just trying to brag knowledge and possibly not a coloured cobby fanatic ;)

You love her, it's clear that. So don't let his words affect you :) She's got 4 years at least of growing out and maturing yet!

Aw thanks ldlp111, I'm thinking its probably just a babyish thing? She is a llittle bit bum high atm, so thatd make it look flatter surely?

Lol the closest we'll get to Gatcombe is hacking round it!!!!

Thanks guyyssss, I think you're right I think he was just trying to big himself up a bit? Was just a bit shocked because he is SUCH a nice guy!

Haha when she's got legs everywhere and a bum 6ft higher than her front I'm sure he'll have lots more to say!! hehe =]

She is lovely :) Nothing there that would concern me at a young age.

And anyway, there are horses with terrible conformation that make eventers :D

Sorry can't seem to find one of her whole body, it's here somewhere:rolleyes:

Wow bloody hell thats quite a change!

Not sure of his name, Welsh man? Really really supportive guy, lovely in every other way, got on really well when he came for his pre-visit, just so rude about Puzzle! Tbf I'm hormonal and probably over sensitive haha xxxx

She looks a real sweetheart, but in the next few years her bum will up in the air and then her withers will overtake, so don't worry and most coloured horses make fantastic jumpers as they seem to love it.

Yeah she does look quite different:D
Puzzle is already a good looking girl so i'm sure she'll be a stunner when she's grown into herself :)

Sorry the pics were huge :o

I'm sure he didn't mean to upset you. I get really paranoid about people making remarks about my 'baby' I think its difficult when you have a youngster as you become all parentish over them. I used to burst into tears everytime someone called mine 'sweet' as I thought they couldn't think of anything nice lol. I think she looks smashing and they change so much mine looked like a little araby thing when he was 2 and now he's a big bosting 4 year old everyone is so shocked lol

Like others have said, you wont know really for another couple of years, I had a welsh D that looked like she had table on top from 1yr to 3yr then she changed and grew up. What an odd thing for him to say to you, they are supposed to 'know' about horses ??

As he likely has no idea who the sire is, or any lineage for that matter, how on earth can he possibly tell?! Are his balls crystal, I wonder. For Heaven's sake, she's a yearling! Expect her to get well ugly yet, before the swan appears.
