Ok, i need to leave my current job, long story short i dont like it anymore. :)

I want to move back to the UK (my cats will be ready to return begining June, they are turning out to be bloody expensive rescues, love em!!).

I have nowhere in the UK to live so will need to find somewhere, ideally i would like somewhere where i could have accommodation for me and the cats in return for horsey work a few hours a day. I am thinking of doing an OU course so would need time to study and would also do a bit of anything i could get my hands on to support myself financially while studying.

My question is whether this sort of accomodation in return for work is "normal", whether anyone has done it and what are the advantages\pitfalls?

Any advice greatly appreciated :D

I would ideally like to be in the herts\beds area as i have family near Hemel Hempsted!

The 'posh' yard where I used to live, had a groom's flat for the grooms to live in. It would be worth checking out all the 'grooms wanted' adverts incase there is something that would suit you.

Thanks all, i have been looking on Yard and grooms site and will get my brother to send over some local papers to have a scan through.

I had never heard of the NFED website so thanks for that.

I was after some "personal" experiences from people who have done this type of thing before, i have worked as a groom for years but always in full time live in positions not on a part-time basis, so wanted some advise on roughly what to expect regarding accomodation in lieu of pay etc and any horror stories so i can try and avoid them!!! :D

I personally dont know of any but live near Hemel so if I hear of any work coming up (also groom but dont need live in etc) I can let you know? There may be someone in Chorleywood looking for something like this, are you looking for a house or would a portacabin type arrangement suffice? Also are you looking for bills included or not also as a few hours of work a day wont always cover this in our area so close to London costs are stupidly high!

If you would prefer an Au pair job mornings only in lieu of accomodation and all bills etc in a house (but just a room shared - sure cats would be welcome!) please just PM me :)

Kathryn975, that link did not work! Thanks though :)

Snowysadude - i am not too worried about what the style of accomodation is as long at it is clean and allows cats. I would prefer to be away from the "main house" if poss, i am too used to being on my own and have many bad habits !! :D

I was thinking more of moving the other side of hemel away from London as you are quite right that prices are ridiculously high, i like the villages going up to leighton buzzard. As i mentioned before i have to wait untill June for the cats to be ready, Many thanks x
