This horsebox shopping lark is getting quite stressful! Although I guess in the run up to xmas there are not going to be many advertised.....

Ideally I am looking for a 3.5 tonner although if the right box came along (to a max of 6.5ton compact type) I would take the plunge and get my test done.

My budget is not huge at about 6k and so I have been looking at older/higher milage boxes.

Now I certainly know at the age/price range I am not expecting perfection and I am willing to do work on something which I buy ie painting inside, replacing a cam belt etc little things like that.......I dont want something which requires major surgery!

I have been to view two 3.5 tonners so far.....the first one was so wet through that it had mushrooms growing in it and the second one (which I had to travel over 2 hours to view!!!) had lots of welding work which needed doing, a leaky window/damp side panels and dodgey soft spots in the floor.

So....have I been unlucky with what I have been to view or am I being delusional with what my money can get me?

Maybe I'll have more luck after xmas when theres more being advertised??

You are being delusional about getting a good 3.5 tonner for that money. Why not be a bit more open minded about up to a 7.5tonner and look for a compact one. Some of them are really very short indeed

The other option is look for something that has a nice body, but an old chassis - and buy a newer chassis. I have no idea what a good mechanic would charge to swap a body over, but there would be some value in the weighed in old chassis which could be offset perhaps?

It might be worth looking at?
