Am I being unreasonable?

I keep my girl on grass livery at the yard where I teach occasionaly, a half hour drive from my house. It is mainly a training and competititon yard with only a handful of other liveries (all at grass), and DIY is not an option. Yesterday the weather took a sudden turn for the worse to -25 (we're in Canada) so I emailed the YO to ask her to pop my girl's rug on as I was at work all day. I said to only do it if she had time, to add any extra charge onto my bill and to let me know if she could'nt do it so that I would know if I had to drive out after work or not (I was'nt planning on going out as the arena was booked all evening). Well, I got no reply to that and when I tried to call the phone got turned off. I assumed she was mad busy, drove out and found the rug had been put on. I found the YO chatting to a client and when I said hello I got no response, when I thanked her directly all I got was a super-frosty 'Yes'.
So - am I being unreasonable to have expect her to let me know if the rug was on or not? TBH she can be very hot-and-cold and I am always worried that I have upset her in some way. My OH says I shoud move yards but the idea of having that conversation is more stressful than constantly having to guess and deal with her moods.
Mince pies and mulled wine for all who read this far! :)

Sounds like she was miffed about something. Before getting into a mexican standoff, I'd try and find out what she was miffed about... that way you can avoid problems in the future :).

On an unrelated note, may I say that I love how in Canada, the rugs go on at -25, and in the UK people panic if the temperature drops into single figures:D

I don't think you were being unreasonable, personally.

You asked her to let you know if she couldn't do it. She did so following your own instructions why would she need to contact you?
My guess is she may well think you were checking up on her.

Sounds rather a funny one
As above said it's only a matter of seconds to send a text saying done or email you back saying rug on
I mean your a livery of hers she shouldn't be "funny" with you since you are paying and it's not like you were asking her to go half way round the world!

Phew - glad to now I'm not being crazy.
I think because I work there too and she sold me my horse at a fanstastic rate the whole livery relationship is a bit messed up. Just been looking at other facilities but cannot imgaine having that conversation with her. I am such a wimp - mind you, other liveries have sneaked away at night and I can kind of see why....

So I was the grown-up and asked if she was ok with rugging or not - apparantly it is a 'major chore' she 'despises' and she does'nt want to do it.
Fair enough - but why not just say this when I asked, or let me know when I started the livery (yes, I know I should have checked but it was summer and the whole arrangement is a bit casual). Honestly.

Wow! I guess that's the reason why she doesn't do part livery! :D There is someone our yard who blows very hot and cold - one day she will have a friendly conversation with you, another day will ignore you if you say hello and other times she'll rip your head off for the fun of it. I have little to do her with and step around most of the time but if she was my YO I don't think I could stick it out. You have to be able to talk to your YO. And I don't really consider sticking a rug on a horse a major chore.

PS. I love your username. :)

Sounds a bit of a dust up over nothing tbh.
I suppose depending on where the horses field is, and where the horse is in it , in relation to the yard could figure in to it, a 10 min walk to get to horse a couple to rug up and 10 mins walk back, might not be so keen myself in -25

:D We don't walk anywhere here! When I am putting blankets on they get piled on the quad and I drive around until I can find the horses.

-25C, Hippophilia, you aren't in Ontario then that's for sure :) We haven't even reached double figures yet :)
