new horse and new rider and first hunting meet saturday! says it all doesnt it!

basically ive been riding since march although missed out april may and june as no horse and ive ridden about 30 times in total. just bought my first horse who has been promised to me to be great for a new person to hunt although hes been a little b@@@@@d this week!

anyway im looking for some advice on what to wear, and how to survive im really excited just terrified!!

thankyou for reading this

What's the rush? It's early in the season yet...why not take the time to get to know your new horse. If you give him a chance to settle in then he won't be a B@@@@@d!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this the horse to replace the one you had problems with in Oct? Honestly...if you don't slow things down a bit no matter how good he is to hunt he'll be a bit odd when he doesn't know you or his new home! Then when you are both a bit more settled with eachother you can have fun over all the good meets at Christmas & New Years!

Hello, well in answer to your question, (and having looked at your other posts), here's a couple of questions:

- can you get your horse to leave a group of others?

- can you either do gates from on-board, and/or jump on and off to do gates at speed?

- can you jump?

- have you done fun rides?

- have you hacked in the company of 3 or 4 others who were cantering and galloping uphill and downhill faster than you originally wanted to go?

If the answer to any of these is anything other than Yes Yes Yes, then yes, you are Bonkers and I suggest you carry on getting to know your horse and building up your and his confidence together.

If the answer to all of the above is indeed Yes Yes Yes and Yes!! then go ahead and enjoy :)

Has the horse hunted before? Do you know the hunt? Is it a hunt with a rep for having alternative routes? If so then go for it, if you get scared you can always stop after the 1st line and all you've lost is some pride and some money. But if you enjoy it and the horse is what was promised then you'll have a good day out. I'd be more concerned that the horse is fit enough to hunt rather anything else, has he been doing enough work to make him able to cope with a days hunting?
