Ok my boy was diagnosed with a bone spavin 5 moths ago, he's never been lame in all 3 paces, just from trot to walk he looks abit short. I was told he didnt need injeactions, bute, just raised heels at the back, to hack him for 3 weeks then go back to normal work until things fuse.
This is where im confused, every post i have read people have said hack in straight lines, no schooling, no circles etc. I have been told going out hacking (long walks) will make things go very slowly, so i should be schooling, doing lateral work, halt to canter, spiralling in and out on circles etc to put the hock under pressure so it will fuse faster, apparently long walks and hacks wont put the bones under enough pressure to make the bones fuse quickly.
My physio's horse went through this with her horse when he was 5 years old, and she done the same thing ive been told to do, schooling and really put the hock under pressure and he was lame for 5 months in total and hes never been lame since (hes now 19).
Cant work out why weve been told to do the opposite to everyone else on here......
Vet came for a check up a month a ago and said hes very happy with him and he still doesnt need any injections etc. Just a joint supplement and raised heels.
Anyone been told the same as me?
