Hi,

I bumped into a local dealer friend at the weekend and happened to come across one of his youngsters.

A rising 3yo connie x tb dun filly (ELH 15hh)

Am I insane to consider selling my established riding horse to buy this little poppet??? I can't stop thinking about her

SHe had the best temperament easy to handle (despite being feral all winter).

Ask yourself if you'll regret it if you don't...... if the answer is yes, then.... congratulations you have a new horse :D

Sounds like you fell in love with the youngster... :)

But...being hard hearted and realistic... IF you sold your current horse and bought this little one, hopefully all would be fine and the start of a long and happy relationship...

BUT...would you regret the decision if for any reason she was unrideable... I know something could happen to your existing horse, life is full of risks... But you are in an established situation and would your feelings for the youngster still hold if she couldn't give you the opportunities you have at the moment?

*speaking as the softy who was willing to keep a yearling as a field ornament and bought a TB in horrendous shape that I don't actually ride but has a home for life* :D

No point battling on with your current horse if you think you'd rather spend the time and money on another. It's boring treading the safe and predictable path all the time ;)
“The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn and change and grow and live.” Is one of the hippy motivational quotes on my wall ;)

Oh God... don't say could I have both, i've been doing the sums all day. I could probably afford it if I slowed down the social life/ lessons and competing a litt bit.

However, dealer has now mentioned that he may put her in foal this time meaning she will be hanging around for the next 18months (and would then be a realistic breakable age so I would still have a riding/ playing with horse).

Dad says I should wait until next year (and just make impromptu visits until then)

Better the devil you know. If you are happy with your current horse be careful. I had a gentle new forest mare, fell in love with a tb for sale so brought her instead first day of owning her she broke my hip. At least you can bring her up your way. whatever you decide i wish you happiness xx good luck xx
