had the morning all to myself, so decided i would go riding, only i didnt go.... got to yard chucked my horse out while i did my jobs, booked our arena, went to catch him and hes laid down sunbathing (ahhhh) went up to him he still laid there, tried to bribe him with a sweetie,he decided to lay out completly, and i just didnt have the heart to bully him up, so i sat with him for a while stroking him and talking to him, and he shut his eyes and went to sleep.
am i too soft or just love my horse too much

I'm hoping for nice weather tomorrow so I can go for a lovely hack on Ellie *crosses fingers*

I'd go back up this eve & work him then!!!

A previous horse I had was lying flat, then when he saw me coming he sat up, so I got his headcollar on & made encouraging noises... & he went 'uuuurrghhhh' and lay back down again...and started snoring!!!!

I made him get up cos I'm a complete cow, & you can't mess about if you're trying to ride before work!

ahhh he was sleepy! On our little yard i t/o all horses in the morning in winter- just easier for me than the other owners and a few mornings one would still be asleep- and i would hang around waiting for her to get up before turning out!!!
Late for work AGAIN but i know what its like to be snuggled up in bed!!!

I did the same thing with a shire horse but he put his head on my lap and went to sleep! Unfortuntunatly I was only about 13 and a shires head is rather big so i had to move after about 20mins because my legs went to sleep. Was perfect tho, middle of parkland just off exmoor so quiet in summer evening sun. I'll never forget it.

I'd have done the same, years ago a riding school owner had a rule that if any horse or pony was lying down they could not be disturbed until they got up of their own free will! It has stuck with me to this day so yes, guess I'm soft too!

Our old ShirexClyde enjoyed a lie down, one morning at TO time she was lying in the sun as it came through her window and we thought she was ill. But no she was merely sunbathing and had to be forced to stand up and go out
