Thinking of options and what's best to do with my ponies over the next few months, and thought about getting an experienced sharer/rider for the young one. Is this likely I'll find anyone that would be interested - he is very young and very green, so wouldn't suit everyone?

Not a small pony, he's probably measuring around the 14.1hh mark or a bit bigger - and native so will carry an adult no problem.

As an added bonus it would be a FREE share - ie no monies either way - will this make it more tempting?

I hope you do but in my area (East Sussex) I have been advertising for a free share for an experianced person for one of my two horses and I didn't get even one phone call!

Maybe you will have more luck in your area, good luck.

I know quite a few people with horses that cant be riden or friends that just dont have the money for a horse of their own that would love a challange like that. I would advertise and see how it goes. You do have a problem in that it is winter and plently of people who loan.share dont want to in the winter. Hope you find someone

I've just started looking to find something to share at the moment (unfortunately in Cardiff so a little far away

) and would love to find something like that! Finances are my issue, so a free loan would be ideal - it's something I've done before with another HHO'ers pony, and something I'd love to find again. I wouldn't worry at all that your pony is young and green, although I'd expect to get a few kids emailing you wanting a pony to get on and go

. My most recent share was unfit and a little green, and I had a great time putting the work in with him - unfortunately had to leave him behind as I moved away or I'd definitely had carried on with the share

HermanGerman - can't believe you've had no interest! Don't fancy a move to Wales do you?!

I would look at contacting your local university riding club and seeing if there are any small adults who might be missing riding or have had to give up their horses or ponies due to uni - they might have limited budgets but be good riders.

Well we're struggling to find a suitable, forward going but containable, lively but not dangerous (!), with potential as an all rounder (ie can jump 2ft without knocking it over), good to handle with manners, and not too long in the tooth so it'll last till she's out of children's classes, 14-14.2 to buy round here (am just over the river in Berkshire from the Bucks/Oxon border), so I can imagine as there's a shortage at that height to buy at a reasonable price in these parts (even the not so suitable ones!), so I'm sure there's every chance someone might want to share! Worth an advert in your tack shop I'm sure.

Thanks, sounds like it might be worth me trying with a few adverts up then?

Chellebean, I'm between Wheatley and Thame, about 12 miles east of Oxford. Whereabout's in Oxfordshire are you, anywhere near?

Dubsie I didn't realise there was a shortage of ponies around here (you're not a million miles away from me!) - guess that's what make the price increase on them with lack of supply and more demand?

I'm north Oxon on the border of Oxon, Northants and Bucks a few miles away

I am sure you'll find someone soon tho! How about getting in touch with Brookes? you may be able to get a sharer from there! I know a friend had a student from Brookes look at her mare the other day.
