Intrigued by the photo 1 on page 3 of this weeks H&H with the caption
"Having a mare - an over exuberant 'piaffe' on the final centre line knocks Hans Peter Minderhoud and Equis Nadine (NED) down the placings in the WEG GP Special." I watched the test on 'you tube'. Am I the only one who thinks this horse had just had enough and could not do what was being asked of her? I think Nadine should have received a Gold Medal for her generosity and persistance in attempting do this test when she is so restricted in her movements?

I actually remember thinking it was a lovely test until that point, so no, sorry! Most dressage at that level looks restrictive to me,especially piaffe.
I remember thinking that he should enter her in the jumping with a pop like that!

Honey, thanks for your response although I respect your opinion I thought the whole test was incorrect on so many levels. From the first halt which was not correct onwards.

I remember seeing this as I was watching waiting to see laura go. As tests go I didn't think it was a great test but I don't think it was because the horse was "restricted" in what way was it being restricted, to the untrained eye I bet most of the dressage horses their looked restricted, but when theires a give and retake in test you see actually they are in selft carriage. I saw a rider dealing with a horse that looked over excited a little tense and unattentitive throughout, but horses are not machines and can't be expected to proform like it everytime out. Yes I think she had had enough at that point and spat her dummy out big time (like my mare sometimes does when she finds soemthign I asking difficult) but purely beause she was not interested in being made to the test on that particular day.

I also noticed at least a dozen horses that seemed incapable of halting correctly and square.

I remember that test and thinking that the mare looked uncomfortable/unhappy from about half way through and that the behavour at the end was just her saying thanks but no thanks enough is enough. I am no expert and hate commenting on professionals as I know I am not knowledgable enough to always know the difference between a correct and incorrect test, but I thought this was just "wrong" for the second half. I actually shouted at the TV - she is not happy! What do I know though:rolleyes:

I saw the test, saw the mare telling her rider where to go, and rebelling and thought that I would love to own her.
I like the sparkiness; think that's what makes mares special.
As the saying goes, you can tell a gelding, ask a mare and persuade a stallion.
S :D

Honey08 I have just reread your thread again in a 'cooler frame' of mind and I have to say that I totally agree with you on your comment about 'Most dressage looking restrictive at this level especially Piaffe'. Can't help wondering if it is the training or the fact that horses are bought to 'the edge' on order to produce the most flamboyant show.
