Hi

I'm struggling to fit everything in around the new baby/toddler/moody teen/settling into new house etc etc and am going to advertise for a sharer for Raff...

there have been a few posts on here about 'how much to charge my sharer?' and stuff like that. i wasn't planning on charging anything, or giving set days for them to be able to ride.

basically, as long as i know in advance that they're riding/visiting, i don't mind how often they come to ride.

if they want to help out with mucking out etc, then that'd be FAB, but it's not essential...

so... am i looking for a SHARER? or a RIDER?

this is my first draft of an advert... i haven't mentioned his jumping (he jumps) because i kind of want someone that would be happy hacking, and the jumping would be an added bonus... if that makes sense? also, i have no school/facilities for jumping, they'd have to rent local manege (lots locally).

is this ad ok?
whilst writing this post, i've realised how handy it would be to have someone do yard stuff just one morning a week... do you think i should change it to a more 'help wanted in exchange for unlimited riding' type ad?

15.1hh 7yr old warmblood gelding for share. Raff is a playful cheeky chap, seeking a new human friend who will give him the exercise and extra attention that his owner is unable to give him due to family commitments. He is safe, sane and fantastic in all ways - both on the ground and ridden. 100% to shoe/box/clip etc. Bombproof both in company and alone. Never strong or fizzy. He’s a bit bored of schooling so would love someone who wanted to take him on hacks/fun rides to start with. Unlimited riding and chance to compete if we can find the right person. Please ring *** for more details.

I have said this before, so don't really want to sound like a stuck record: I really think you must ask for help with the chores as you are by your own admission time poor, if only for poo picking/mucking out on the days she rides. Otherwise you'll get every young kid over 10 thinking 'yayhay free riding' as well as all the nice sensible people who might be the sort you really want. This could free up your time for a little more riding too.

Agree with Dubsie. I wouldn't expect to share/ride a horse without doing some of the graft (regardless of whether I was paying or not). Do you really want someone who is not prepared to roll their sleeves up to help care for your boy? I would really look for someone who was prepared to look after him for the whole day if at all possible i.e muck out, ride, rug change etc.
Your boy sounds lovely by the way, good luck!

I absolutely agree with Dubsie - When I got my sharer I stipulated that in return for riding my sharer must poo pick field that day (its done daily, check water, hay feed, check my other horse and pick all feet out) so basically I get a free day (actually I work that day and I still go out before and after work to see them and check she has done them OK!)

My sharer doesnt actually ride now as she just likes 'being with them' and secretly I quite like that.

But yes definitely dont give free riding away, 75% of people charge for a share / part loan anyway. You may just get some people wanting to ride and then they bu**er off leaving you with all the work. If they do just want to ride then ask them for say £15 a ride and then you can pay someone to do the boring jobs like poo picking etc!

i would agree with other help otherwise youll be the dogsbody and someone else gets all the fun .by the way youll be able to weed some people over the phone.remember hes your horse and this is to benefit you as well.

how about this:

Help wanted with my delightful 15.1hh 7yr old warmblood gelding. If I was offered unlimited riding I'd be more than happy to help out on the yard so don't be afraid to ask! I wouldn't say it's a share, more work in return for rides kind of thing. There are definitely people out there looking for this type of situation, I was one of them.

I help out some lovely people with their horses, similar situation to yours in that they are very busy people, except it's on a larger scale as they have 9 horses. I get to ride lots and nomally do evening stables and anything else that needs to be done. I treat every horse as if it were my own

The riding and just having the chance to be around horses is enough for me but in return for the help they take me hunting and are taking me for lessons with a dressage trainer in preparation for showing their cob this season- very very kind of them and I am so grateful. Perfect situation really, happy horses, happy owners and I and am very very happy with how things are!

oooo, you are bad at asking aren't you

.

...(in exchange for a bit of help).... how about 'in exchange for stable duties' or 'in exchange for some yard work'. At least then you should lose any layabouts!?!

Speaking from experience just be sure about what you want from the person, as I have just had to tell someone its not working out when if i had been honest from the start i new it wasnt goin to!
horses are not just about ridding theres alot more to them, time and finacially.

Just to say, we keep 9 horses, and we could not do what we do with out TWIZZEL, she is a god send, a fantastic young lady, horses love her, as we do, and a real worker. Thanks Twizzel x
