Am I mad? All year turnout?

At this time of year is it mad to expect my horse to be out during the day on a full livery yard? I've looked at a few full livery yards and they all seem to want the horses out either for only a few hours or not at all. In summer they seem to want them in on a night. Can you tell I'm used to diy?
I just want a yard where horse can go out days in winter and 24/7 summer with a menege (indoor or out) that can be booked (so I can see when it will be being used) and some assistance during the week (and the odd weekend) during winter but I can't find anything between barnsley and huddersfield that can fit the bill. Money is not limiting me but am I asking for too much? Does anyone, round here or further away have this already? Just wondering if I'm mad (well more mad than usual )

Thats what we have here - we are very lucky it is not unusual for even DIY yards to have restricted grazing over the winter. My priority when finding a yard was one that had year round turnout. Mine go out 24/7 as soon asap usually March and stay out as long as possible - been as late as Christmas before now! I decide when mine come in and go out - have had to change it slightly since mare got lamnitis - so this year they won't go out 24/7 until there is no more frost and cob is on starvation paddock.
 
I don't turn my own out in the winter and have them out at night in the summer, but will turn out my livery's as little or as much as they want - The longer they are out the better if I am honest

But I am lucky enough to have enough land to rotate, suppose that is the big decider in how much turn out a yard can offer?!

All year turn-out is the big issue when looking for yards in South Glos. They all advertise as all year turn-out but may interpret this in an odd way. One yard had nothing turned out in fieldsfrom december til March - but said that one hour in the indoor school (not even 20 x 40) with 9, yes NINE others, was turnout. Couldn't get away fast enough. Another was excellent until subsidies for the wildflowers came in, then we could only have 24/7 for July August September. I've been at the present yard for a few years now. Its a farm, not smart but not a mess, fantastic hacking across fields and woods or quiet lanes. Genuine all year turnout singly or small groups, including in the snow. Currently I have 2 in fields further away from main farm (useful when weaning) and they take hay to them daily, the one I ride and my yearling are stabled at mo, my choice, they turn out and put hay in fields, will bring in if I want. We have a bookable outdoor school.
Downside ? Stabled horses have to be in if hunt is going to be near (Sat) quite often in the season, but you can turn out early for a couple of hours. It takes me between 20 and 35mins to get there. WORTH IT.
 
No, youre not mad. What you are looking for is perfectly reasonable. Most yards have too many horses for their acreage so end up restricting turnout because otherwise the fields would be ruined.
 
Good to know that they exist. I must just be unlucky not finding any or there are not many round here to find.
DIY place was excellent except couldn't get into the menege (and would have been nice to get some assistance).
This place has all the assistance and amazing meneges that are bookable but limited turnout.
Can't win!
 
Just wanted to add that I adore my old YO and would go back in a heartbeat if menege issues got sorted out. She's so lovely, when she found out they were going to charge me for my trailer at new place (and it isn't very secure there either) she said she'd keep it at her place for free for me

no you arent looking for something that doesnt exist. I can give you a few places but to be honest you wouldnt like them as most people leave within a short space of time

if i could get my arena up quicker you could come to me and you know id be more than happy to help out with whatever hlep you needed weekday or weekends. booking the arena wouldnt be a problem either, plus you could do what you wanted with Mol, in/out, whatever you please.
things would be so much easier if our house had sold. i cant tell you a date when its going to be done either thats the prob, and i know that hacking only would just be a prob atm

We're o.k for now where we are - but when someone in general conversation tonight mentioned that last year half way through summer they had to go back to half day turnout due to lack of grazing I was like

I thought it was bad enough for winter, no way can Mol do this all year round!
My instructor's yard - one that a previous fellow livery moved to - had a space (fellow livery gave me word earlier in the week) but what we didn't know was that my instructor was above me on the list and had just bought a new horse so I didn't get the stable

With Mol being ill recently I haven't had a lesson for 2 weeks so didn't know. Will have to keep eyes and ears open for places.
And to think I used to keep my old pony on a farm, out all year round with no rugs and rode in the farm tracks between the fields, putting my jumps on the grass verges. Far too fancy wanting stables and a menege now

we all move to the new one in about 6wks (well i move 4wks on Friday not that im counting lol) so that would work out well lol.
we have had someone look round (shock horror!)but well just have to wait and see.
i know one yard that sounds exactly what youve described about the summer turnout however to make matters worse the liveries were allowed to help each other out to fetch in on the half days etc and the YO charged them for fetching in! cheeky or what.

yes you are too picky now! get Mol stuck in a barn and ride her in a field, youll soon realise you dont need the posh arena lol. yeah right what am i talking about, im desperate to have the arena put in

ill let you know when work starts, been told itll only take 2 weeks to do the whole thing and the refencing!

There has been an update on the livery situation - I might have a space at livery pal's yard after all (like a yoyo this is

), going to see on Friday. Best news is that YO doesn't mind if you turnout all year - you get a field and you manage it as you wish but you'll not get another if you don't manage it right, which is fine by me. I'll let you know what happens.
 
that sounds great hun, i hope it works out, its not long now till Friday, whereabouts is the new yard and who is your new instructor?
how is the ginger beast? is she recovering from her recent ordeals?
you know you can still bring Mol to mewhatever happens when the arena is built

no probs with anything you have said down south. ours get turned out days as long as weather not horrendous - to preserve fields as much as poss and for safety. which is fine by us liveries - we dont want the fields being churned up either.

Mol is recovering well - her mudfever treatment is finished now and she appears to be over her constipation colic symptoms...can't wait for that bill!

New yard, if all goes well tonight, is not a million miles from this one we are at now - will pm you the details so you can come up...in fact you could ride Mol in their next jumping or dressage show if you want (they do one a month)
