Hi

I lost my fantstic horse of many years a couple of weeks ago and since then have been going stark staring bonkers. The OH is soo fed up with the obsessive cleaning and dog walking that hes telling me i need another nag asap!!!!

I went to see a project yesterday (1st 1 i have had the courage to see) and i am very very tempted by him!!! Lots of other horsey friends and mother are saying dont rush in etc but i am missing having a horse so much.
Is it just that its the first I have been to see or is it because he might be the right one

help xxx

If possible go back for a second viewing before making a decision. You must still be in mourning over your dearly loved horse but it doesn't mean you shouldn't get another one.

Hi there
I also lost my horse 2 weeks ago and was walking the dog obsessively (not the cleaning tho!!!!). I looked on Horseworld Bristol) website and saw a lovely Welsh C they had for rehoming. She arrived yesterday.
There was an awful lot of heartsearching but I just felt I needed a horse to stop me from going under mentally.
Go with your gut feeling and I hope everything works out for you

So sorry to hear about your loss but fully understand the boredom thing - I start going broody if I can't ride for a week

I'm in a similar situation - thinking of buying the first one I've seen and trying not to get excited etc.

I'm going to have a lesson and hack on my potential one today so I recommend going for another viewing, being really careful to note everything, taking experienced and critical friends and ask them to point out every fault lol.

However, I've since found out that there may be a question mark over my potential one's hacking so I'm a bit

atm but I wont know until I hack myself so will find out more today. However, I'm glad I know this as it will make me super critical today and not all rose tinted glasses.

A question for you - how different is this horse to your old one? Despite both of mine being cute ponies that are easy to do, the ridden difference is proving to be big. My old pony gets wound up and bucky in the school and when cantering in company but is solid as a rock out hacking, he is forward going and not spooky and will take me anywhere (and I can still lightly hack him). New pony has lovely paces and will really teach me flatwork and jumping, appears steady at shows etc but I've got a feeling is very spooky out hacking...

I think buying a new horse is the positive thing that comes from losing one. I starting looking after a few weeks of losing my gorgeous Irish lad but didn't have any luck and got dishearted quickly. I went to the sales looking for a mare ready to break, I'd even gone to the troube of veiwing and noting down promising lots with my protential top bid... I ended up buying the second lot having seen it trot in the sales ring for roughy two seconds. I'd bought a wild yearling colt!! I should have relised when he needed an out of hours vet out before he was even uploaded that he'd be trouble!! Now days he's is my complete pride and joy and brings a smile to my face just thinking about him : )

thanks for the repliesxxx

the one i went to see is the same sort of stamp but one hell of a project!!! he is a sat on 6yr old with potential. my old horse was the most chilled out reliable but still sparkly show cob.
it really is a tough choice. i took my hyper picky friend who is of excellent critacal value and she liked him. we are weighing up the do i get him vetted for the price and do i want the amount of work to make him special. the sensible part says think of the winter but the excited part says think how lovely he will be!!!!

My good friend and trusted instructor like the pony too - maybe we should listen to them

I still think of the first horse I saw when I went looking after I lost Tigs. I didn't buy him - much as I love Dizz, I wished I'd gone for him. He was young, unbacked, neurotic, but he bonded with me and I think he's my one big regret.

Never admitted it before

'Tis obviously the season for soul searching.

So, I'd say, from my experience, go with your gut.

Hi there

i would just like to say i lost my first pony 9 years ago and have had loads of horses since then but nothing has compared to him
frown.gif
. I found it really hard to bond with anything as sonny was my best friend. I have been riding over 17 years and have now just found the perfect horse got her yesterday

.

I found it hard to accept that he had gone and missed him dearly.

so im just saying please take time and not to rush but if you feel it is right then go for it.

Thanks for thE advice- TBH I think I will leave this one and see some others first. My friend thinks i am mad as i have such a limited budget but I just didnt feel right with him and I think in all honesty he's going to be a lot of work and whilst thats not an issue (the work bit) i think he might be more than i can handle at teh mo esp as we are on the slippery slope to winter.

thanks again xx
