I have just picked up a pony unseen and untried from a dealer paid cash in a service station and taken him home.

The dealer told me he is perfect and he is a lovely colour, and i believed her. ( I did see a picture of him first)

He is in my field, and is wonderfull.

It certainly takes away all the hassle of viewing etc!

if the dealer was/is known to be honest and knows what's what, then i'd have no problem whatsoever.

i buy and sell unseen on a regular basis.

glad you didn't think i sold you a dodgy pony, DC!!!

No - well in theory no but would depend on price etc, also wouldn't matter that much if it did turn out to be a dud/lunatic cos I would just turf it out the field and it could have a happy retirement being fed and pampered (more fool me eh!!! haha)

although i suppose i wouldn't advise it - i;ve bought a pony without even seeing a photo! first time i saw him was when he walked off the trailer! he's fab tho!!

I have bought a few horses and ponies unseen , via photos, word of mouth , etc before and I have sold a couple of my old ponies this way too . Sometimes it can be great and turn out brilliant for everyone , sometimes there can be problems , but any i encountered on either end worked out fine .

did u have horse vetted ? warranty etc ? get a good price?
these things are what can contribute to it working out .
i know people who have tried horses several times, paid thousands of pounds and it has gone pear shaped and then others who have been given horse unseen , or bought cheaply unseen and had these horses for years and had great success. I hope you are happy with your horse and it all goes well. x

xx

Yep i've got that t-shirt - found a horse on horsemart one afternoon while sitting in work - sent hubby (who was nearby) to have a butchers - the wretched woman walked this poor sorry looking tb towards him skinny as a rake, sad and depressed, riddled with mud fever and he gave her the cash there and then without even putting a headcollar on him - bearing in mind hubby knows nothing about horses I was a little shocked to say the least when I turned up to collect him the next morning - would do it again though we saved that boy from a life of misery.
Good luck

very, very pleased you like him!!!

he is as i discribed...and he will, mark my words, be a very, very capable pony, DC!!!

thank you for giving him a knowledgable home.
JM.

Personally I wouldn't however, if you only paid a small fee for the horse and it is a youngster ( I asume as you are going to break it in ) then you must also be able to afford to loose that money if anything goes wrong with the horse or it doesn't turn out as you expected. Brave though!
