Long story cut short, I have 2 horses a 15.1conni x now 32 who I have had on loan for the past 18 years or so, she's now retired! & a 16.3 tb x wb 13 who my friend bred for me, I first met him when he was 8 hours old, he came to live with me at 9 months, I backed him & have done every thing with him, He was diagnosed with arthritis of the Coffin joint back in May last year, so he's more of a happy hack now rather than a show jumper,

The thing is I would like another horse to carry on competing, How ever I am lucky enough to have a friend who has a psg dressage horse who is willing to give me lessons on her horse, and am also in the lucky position to be able to borrow my friends cob, and I can still obviously hack my boy.

I have found a lovely yearling that I really like & should be very talented, so the question is am I mad to even consider getting a 3rd horse? I originally wanted a 2 or 3 year old, but I figure that my boy will be 16 by the time this yearling is ready to work, by which time with his condition he will be ready to take a back step & I will be able to ride properly Dressage style! or should I just be thankful for what I have? or will I get board not having any thing to jump bigger than "2.6" & then wish I had got something older?

Only you know if you have enough money and time to do them - and yourself - justice! You lucky thing even to be considering it. I find it hard enough keeping an in-foal mare and half share of companion pony!

I am lucky, My Dad has recently retired, so things have just gotten a bit easer, He helps out at the farm just up the road so I get all hay free, & this winter if the weather has been bad he's, mucked out and bought in lunch time for me! he's always been box driver ect & he has a soft spot for my old girl as he used to ride her too. I haven't poo picked her since summer Dad always gets there first he likes to get up early feed the horses & Mums 8 pet sheep and have a chat with her!

No she's with us till the end I promised her that years ago, I have been through to much with her, Apart from that I don't think my Dad would let me!, Also her owner has since dismantled the stables & now has a lovely swimming pool!

Go for it!!! to be honest ive been thinking the same, i have a 28yo tb and a 12yo cob who is off to stud this year so have been thinking about getting something on loan for a year, so i can continue riding and riding club etc and let my cob relax and just keep her ticking over.... decisions decisions
