Hello! Long time lurking, first time posting.

I was trying to work out if I've gone potty or not. Considering soldiering through the BHS exams to some kind of qualification, starting right from the beginning.

Sadly I'm not a kid anymore, I'm 31, stuck in a city office job being the runaround dogsbody. Yawnsome. I miss being able to see sky and breeze and being around horses. As it stands I can only ride a couple of times a year as I can't afford regular lessons, work too long hours to share or loan, and that just plain sucks.

So have I gone bonkers this week deciding to go through BHS exams and do something, I don't know what, at the end of it? It'll probably take me years anyway. I just rambled, sorry!
 
I was in my late 40s when I did the course. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and gained a Grooms Certificate, and learned a lot too. Go for it.
 
I'd be amazed if the poorest of poorly paid city office jobs came down to what a fully qualified BHSI makes - so think about that one -especially as you go on to say that you can't afford riding now!

But thirty one is as good a time as any to have bit of a think - I changed to being employed ( as opposed to self ) aged thirty five and went on to quite a successful corporate life that took me to places I'd never have reached by myself ( the top of Canary Wharf Tower and Space Shuttle mission STS 26!) and this gave me the wherewithal to keep two horses, two daughters at public school and her indoors. Running the risk of blowing me own trumpet - I think I deserved the rewards but there was nothing special going for me other than the fact that I made the best of the opportunities that cropped up.

I read a book called "A Gift of Wings" a wonderful story of a barnstorming pilot who started out with nothing - he says if you really want something bad enough - you'll find a way of getting it. Conversely, I reckon, if you look back in another thirty years and you haven't done what you're planning now - you didn't really want it enough.
 
I earn more now as a groom than I did when I was practice manager of a veterinary practice! What with tax and travel I'm better off now, yes there's rain and wind but I love it :D
 
Thanks all! Nice to hear others in a similar position. And don't worry I'm not dropping anything to go play with ponies! I work for a major charity (not equine) at the moment, maybe I could use that experience and this to work at an equine charity? Who knows!!

Now trying to convince the very un-horsey hubby that its a good idea and I won't be throwing non-existent cash down the pan.
