Im concidering buying a horse wigh laryngeal hemiplegia (wind when exerting self) and Shivers just want to know If Im mad or not. Hes 17.1hh warmblood x ISH gelding 5 yrs old all we want to use him for is hacking if he didnt have his problems he would make an amazing hunter but his 'wind' problem means he gets out of breathe. An operatgion can fix it however because Im not planning to do anything strenuous on him and hes not suffering I would just leave it and the shivers as they are.

But am I mad? Hes such a perfect horse in every other way

Thanks

Karina

my friends horse had larygeal hemiplegia and was told when she got him that he was fine unless galloped -this was not true she had him checked and his windpipe was the narrowness of a drinking straw. he had the operation and now is perfect, the vets said he was so bad he could have collapsed at any time. i owned a shiverer and it progressed rapidly until he was pts . i wouldnt take a horse even if it was free with both of these conditions sorry, there are plenty of healthy horses out there .x

I'm afraid I agree with this...

There are some things I'd risk and take on with a "free" horse but not these problems and certainly not in one I would have to buy...

Sorry probably not what you want to hear!

Plenty of lovely, cheap/ free horses out there, keep looking.

Thanks guys your right but its good advise. Can I ask the people with experience of shivers how old their horses were when it got bad age they were PTS etc. I feel that even if I can give this a horse a good home for even a few years it would be worth it x
