Niece has outgrown little 12.2 welsh x so she has come to live with me and keep my cob company.

Pony has always been a bit grumpy, pulling the odd face etc but never done anything else.

More recently she has beecome a nightmare to deal with. Face pulling constantly, trying to bite, threatening to kick etc if you go anywhere near her.
If I am outside her box/field I alway get a little neigh as if she is pleased to see me.

She is 16 years old and never had a foal. Up to date with teeth, back, farrier , worming etc. She has a lump on her udder which is difficult to get to as she won't let me near it. She wees for England, morning noon and night. Not in an 'in season' way. Proper gallons of the stuff.

I had her to the vet last week and they have done blood tests which we are waiting for the results of.

We have tried her on regumate in the past and also other mare type supplements.

She is a pretty little mare who loves hunting, jumping and being pampered and I would love to get her a new home where she could be ridden regularly but with her temprement like this I wouldn't let her go.

Am I missing something?

She was starting to get like this while she was working. She has only been with me for a couple of months. Niece has ridden her occasionally so we didn't think it was that.

She is turned out each day along with my cob and brought in at night. Fed haylage at night.

Think I would get the vet - could be a kidney problem. A mare on our yard had a similar problem and the main sympton was weeing.

I expect the lump under her udder is unrelated, but can -weird question - can you get a hose on this mare? I can't really brush my mare's tummy, but she will let me hose round her thighs and udder; when she was kicking at her belly inexplicably I managed to get a good look at her udder while hosing her to discover that it was really manky between the teats and needed a good clean.

I'll try the hose thing - thanks for the tip.

We are waiting for some blood test results and also the results from a wee sample too. Hopefully I should get these anyday now.

I just feel really sorry for her - she looks so miserable at times and I just can't help but feel she is in pain somewhere.

I hope this doesn't worry you, but when mine started weeing like crazy the tests showed the very strong probability of a sarcoma.

TBH I wouldn't be surprised if something like that came up.

I'm just not sure if there is anything else I could be checking/doing.

Can I ask what the outcome of your situation was?

Sadly I had to make the decision to pts. The vet said it was possible that the situation could be managed for a short time but he couldn't assure me that things wouldn't go down hill very fast nor that my darling wouldn't suddently be in pain. So I had to do what was best for the horse. It was very hard but I'd do the same again.

Ok - thanks Sly.

I hope it doesn't come to that but I wouldn't have her suffering.

Fingers crossed that we find out what it is. If only they could talk eh?
