As a matter of interest, just wondering how long you spend with your horse (s) each day - if infact you see them everyday ???

Have come to the conclusion people at my yard think I'm nuts and think I live there, infact had a new livery in a while back who thought I was staff as she said 'oh, but you're always here' !!!
smirk.gif

Weekdays I go straight from work and am there from 5.30 - 9.00pm and weekends 1.00 - 7.00 pm !!

think I must be the worlds biggest 'faffer', I can always find something to do, especially as he's DIY but I just really enjoy being with him. I don't even ride for long each day, sometimes I don't ride, as he's an elderly chap and we just do enough to keep him fit and happy. I never had ponies as a child so think I appreciate what I have so much more now. Plus I am happily single and only have myself to worry about!!
grin.gif

Figured out on average I spend nearly 30 hrs a week with him!!! And I don't resent a single minute. Am I mad ?!?

(cos I'd happily spend double that if I didn't have to work to keep him!!)

Ah that's sweet! As you're single and it's not winding anyone else up, I say "carry on" if it makes you happy. They are lovely creatures, end therapeutic to be with!

After all, Nepenthe, we are all killing time on here in the same way aren't we?

In a way I understand you, I never had ponies as a child, and was always fiddling and faffing about with mine to begin with, until I got children old enough to need service from me, such as cooking proper meals, ferrying them about, homework, husband began to think I'd vanished, etc. So now it's sometimes 3 hours at weekends (not riding) and in the week, probably 1.5 hrs, not riding time.

I think you are wonderful!! I am currently between jobs aka no one will employ me haha!! I spend almost every minute of the day with Fred and to be perfectly honest, I don't ride him all that often either but I love looking at him...some may accuse me of being a pervert but he is sooooo handsome haha.
If you have the time and don't feel that you are missing out on anything else, why not!!
I don't think youre mad, just in love haha x

I have a husband and children, so I don't spend all day at the yard at the weekend, I would be divorced! The time I spend at the yard isn't really *time spent with my horse* - I ride her and thats it, but most of my time is spent hanging out with my friends and getting jobs done.

I would say I am there 2 hours every morning and 1 in the evening - but it IS my social life too and if not riding then I prob spend 15mins tops with horse!

I'd spend all day every day given the chance and now I have two am happy as a pig in s**t, it's just a bugger I have to go to work, sooo inconvenient.

It's even worse now am on a yard where there's a decent kitchen, microwave etc OH keeps asking who I am, wonder if I can convince him I'm some new woman?

You're not mad, you're having fun and as you're single you've no-one to please but yourself! I am married and I wouldn't want OH to start resenting me having a horse, so I usually do George after work 5.30-7.30 in the week and at weekends i will probably spend 3-4hrs up there, but I usually go for long rides if the weathers good.

Mind you I've had weds, thurs, fri off work this week to help George settle in and I've been up the yard all day - it's probably what's driving him nuts!

Usually every afternoon 1-5ish and that's only because he's out in the morning! It has been said numerous times that he should be on DIY or I should get a job at the yard! I think M's only true day off is on the very rare occasion that I dont go down and he gets some peace and quiet!

No set time, some days i spend nearly all day with them. Then other days i go in the morning check them over walk around the field checking fence. Then i go back around teatime so probably work out around a couple of hours a day if i am not riding them.
How ever with winter on its way when they go in i will be spending more time with them but at present they are out 24/7.

I am now having a quick ride in the mornings so its about 2 hours each morning and about 45 mins in the evening during the week. On a Saturday normally 4 hours in the morning as we go for a longer ride and again 45 mins in the evening. If I'm in a hurry though it can be as little as 15-20 mins at night, giving her her dinner, change of rug and hay net.

I spend as much time as I can with her/up the yard but i have a full time job, a house to keep clean
crazy.gif
and a husband to spend time with too so I have to balance. I am very very lucky that my hubby thinks that if the sun is shining I should 'make the most of it' and spend as much time as poss with her

I can easily spend hours and hours with my pony - I only really come home to stop OH getting cros with me for never being there. I'm there for half an hour every morning, and an hour or two every evening, and as long as possible at weekends. I am a ditherer, and so it my pony. We don't do anything fast!!

but unfortunately I have that annoying thing called 'work' to do

I still manage to spend 1 1/2 hours in the morning and about 3 - 3 1/2 hours at night though!

My horse has been on box rest so I've been spending a lot more time with him over the last few weeks. Before that he was out 24/7 and I was always rushing so I wasn't spending a lot of time with him. Its been hard work but on the whole I've really enjoyed it and I think we've built up the relationship we used to have before everything became such a rush. I am going to make sure I spend more time "faffing" with him in future.
If you are enjoying spending time with your horse good for you!

If you're mad then I am too... My routine is pretty much like yours: Working and single and spending as much time with my boy as I can, every evening after work 6 to 9 pm + weekends 1 to 7pm !
Except when travelling on business which although I love it has its down side: taking me away from my boy... Which is why when NOT travelling the world, home is where my boy is / the yard

I use to be like that, after a bad relationship I got stuck into my horses morning and night, but it actually made me ill! and not a very happy person.
I still have 3 horses but enjoy them FAR MORE. I will be at the yard from 7:45 in the morning to turn out and muck out, turning the 3 boys out. Perhaps riding Snoopy.
In the evening, I will bring in at 5pm, ride Snoop if I didnt ride in the morning and tidy up, groom etc and leave around 7pm.
FinnMc now rides Winston my other horse in work, which means I dont have to be at the yard all hours!
I then have more time to see friends, go to the gym and actually have a LIFE!

I love my horses dearly! but it did mean i lost a lot of friends how i was before, because I wouldnt see my friends etc.

I also realise my horses go just as well at competitions, I dont need to where myself out!

We have two and Monday I am up from about 8.30 to 10 pm, Tuesdays and Thursday from about 7.30 to 9.45 and weekends anything from 2 hours to 8 hours - if I am having a field clear and getting Chancer ready for a show.

This is my time and my way of relaxing. I don't do pubs and clubs and have a hugely stressful job dealing with people who have problems, to get away from everything and mince around with the boys is the best therapy I could get.

I do like chatting and often help other if they need a hand.

I can spend over an hour just grooming Chancer - he is a very hairy gypsy cob and he adores being pampered. Luckily my OH is often with me and he too enjoys taking his time and unwinding from his job.

Aww you arent nuts! I love just being around them too, pottering aound etc.
I couldnt be someone who just shows up to ride then goes home, for me horse ownership is about a lot more than what you do when you are on their back.
