if my horse hated/did not go well in a hanging cheek snaffle the same may well apply to a 3 ring dutch gag??

My lad didn’t like a hanging check but goes really well in a 3-ring gag.

it has a similar action but is a different bit so maybe one will work for you but not the other. I ride one of my horses in a dutch gag on the 2nd ring and it suits him down to the ground, but he is very hard to control in a hanging cheek snaffle. I suppose the only thing you could do would be try both and if they fail move onto something else? xx

Could it be because the hanging cheek has fixed cheeks and the 3 ring gag has a loose ring cheek?
