Am i right or wrong?? Showing Related

That's right - look down on those of us who do local shows and enjoy unaffilated shows. I regularly compete in unaffiliated dressage and nearly always beat those who compete affiliated AND at a higher level than me, so please don't look down your noses. I choose to do unaffilated because I prefer the fact that people tend to be friendlier and more helpful and don't turn their noses up at people who don't have HOYS qualifying horses. By this comment you have proven what a lot of people already thing about showing people - supercilious snobs!

Agreed - when showing is mentioned people always assume that higher level is meant - what about those of us who enjoy a potter around the local showground??????
TBH when we went to a bigger show, I was all a bit overwhelmed and I was only the groom! I think Kelly would have lost her head! Very intimidating

Very true, i would never be big into showing but it was good to enter and have some fun but if the judge makes you cry and is rude i don't call that fun!! (not from today, another judge a few weeks ago at the same show) x

No I know the feeling :( I'm older now though and a lot more thick skinned than I used to be so I think they could say what they wanted to me nowadays since Kelly's come through so much!
I've been placed behind a grossly obese cob in best condition before now and told my horse had a bit of a crest (this wasn't Kelly) but there is no way on Gods earth was that horse fat! And that did upset me, seeing the cob wobble its way round a lap of honour....:(
but hey ho, now we do veteran in hand (a revised plan 'cause of Kelly's injury! and the fact she acts 6 and is actually 16) and Best Tail :D and a lovely hack around the nature park in between!!

Best turned out is a starter class, and to be honest I wouldn't care if the what tack the horse wore as long as it was clean and correctly fitted and fits the horse. I have seen top show riders with all the 'correct tack' that was absolutely filthy.
What about all those who have one animal, one set of tack and go to a show for the day. Just because they and their horse are correctly dressed to show jump can they not have a go.
So unless the schdule specifies what the turnout should be I think the judge can make up their own minds.
Perhaps more shows should do concours d'elegance instead, which means that they judge the most stylish turnout, could even be western, whatever, but allows people to have a go with what the've got.

I used to go to Lea and Harewood End, would love to go this year but it's a bit far for me to travel these days. :( Pic second from the right in sig was taken at Harewood End.

As for showing, I'm not complaining, took my new pony to our first show on Saturday, entered the novice working hunter and won!:D

How about you hold off on the whole being offended thing and realise that that comment was most likely about the standard of judging/organisation/etc and not the people riding at unaffiliated shows. There was nothing snobby, chill out.

Thank you! I'm not a showing person in the slightest so do not see how I can represent what showing people are/are not like. All I meant is that I don't think you can have very high expectations of unaff shows because they have no guidelines to stick to and are normally run by normal people just trying their best who may/may not know what they are doing! So sometimes can be a bit rubbish and badly run. Some unaffiliated shows are great and that's all good but you can not expect them to be, hence if people find them annoying then I think they should do something else rather than moan about it.

I understand where you are coming from and i don't have a problem i'd rather a person go in and have a go instead of not bothering but it is judges breaking rules and not reading the schedule that annoys me. x
