I work at a private yard earning a bit of pocket money just doing general care for 2 horses and a pony. I'm 23.
I go up every sunday, muck out and then turn out or ride and then go back in the evening to catch in rug up, pick out feet, feed, and muck out fields. I have been doing this for the past 5 years.

Anyway, I was up there this week and went to pick out horses feet and all of them were packed with mud from previous evening. Not only that, the stables were muckier than normal and the fields clearly hadnt been touched (we do them every day).

There is a young girl that supposedly does the same as me on a saturday with her mum and sister helping her.

Have spoken to the YO (who owns one horse and the pony-other horse is on livery) and she said she would have a word.

I just feel a bit miffed that I have had to do all this girls work for her! And she has her mum and sister to help!

There maybe a reason though, find out before you get all miffed, I would say be miffed if only down to being lazy

You have done the right thing though by having a word with owner so hopefully there won't be a recurrence ... or there may be a new Saturday girl!

If there is no valid reason, like she was ill but did the best she could, then you are right to be very miffed!! I used to freelance groom, & at one of my jobs a girl used to do two evenings, she never groomed them, did their feet or poo picked, & she used to say, "Oh I didn't have my wellies," or "Oh, it was raining & I had to get Sam (her kid) home," I used to get really fed up as we got paid the same & I then had to work harder to do all her stuff too. In the end, after lots of moaning the owner did have a word with her, but I'm afraid the fact that she had a little kid won over every time. I just hate it when people use their children as an excuse!!
