Am I the only one that finds this shocking???

It's mean - everyone knows horses trust their riders and try hard to please so it's cruel to drive them into doing something like this - it doesn't sit right with me I'm afraid :(

Yes, saw this in the Sun Times yesterday. Very cruel. Mind you, this from a country that kills it's retired racing greyhounds in an appalling manner. They call them piano players & string the dogs up so their hind legs can just touch the ground & take bets on which dog will stay alive longest. Supposedly a civilised European country - I don't think so

Those pictures made me very uncomfortable, especially the first one. The horse's face says it all.
Sadly, another supposedly civilised country with some very dubious ideas of entertainment involving animals.

Yup.

No idea what the EU thinks it is doing giving them money for bull fighting, a big reason why I think the EU is a bit of a waste of space. I like traditions... that aren't torture. "Tradition" my buttocks.

I refuse to see any form of animal abuse or slaughter as culture. If you need to do something like that for culture then you have not got a decent culture. And to think our culture includes men dancing around a pole with bells on their feet..

Hmm... some people (like me) would say that this could be said about hunting... I dont venture into the hunting forum anymore (no point on a pro hunting magazine forum!), but the arguement is usually "its tradition", "its our culture" blah blah. Sorry, but chasing foxes for miles with a pack of dogs then shooting it (legally anyway, I doubt this happens very often) to me is animal cruelty. Enjoyment is made out of ultimately causing great stress to an animal and then killing it. I really see no difference with this, at least these horses aren't killed.

Stupid assuming everyone in Spain believes its their culture. My mother was born and raised in Spain, she hates their bull fighting and this kind of thing. Many do.

they make stunning photos and i assume they think the patron saint of animals will protect the animals. after all that though, i find this very cruel and shocking and a sad reflection of knowledge and beliefs.

Those photos appall me. The individuals involved should be ashamed of themselves. The one of the horse falling horrifies me. :(

That doesn't mean I have to bring the whole of a country into it, or have a dig at anyone's cultural sensitivity. :rolleyes3:

Sometimes I want to ask you to marry me, in a non creepy way.

I have to be honest and say that, when someone posts a video pr pics with "care shocking/awful" warning I usually wimp out and don't open it. Not because I condone the content but because these things genuinely upset me and haunt me for days after watching them. You only need to read the reactions of others to get a feel for what it's about.

In this case, I'm sure there are many, many decent, caring, intelligent, humane and informed people in Spain who equally abhor this kind of thing. The fact that this is happening in their country doesn't give any of us the right to tar everyone in Spain with the same brush. Further, the fact that these activities are banned in some states/areas says to me that progress is being made towards a total ban. It's only by people working toward this on the ground in the country concerned that change happens.
