Ha! Bit of a silly post really but just to say I've been to the new library in Birmingham City Centre and got four lovely books out, one written by my favourite true crime writer with her latest book only released six months ago!! Ihave every single book she has written (all forty plus of them). I was going to buy the book with the Xmas money my Aunt gave me, don't need to now!

Also got a fantastic book called Farewell to the Horses which I think might be a bit sad about a British Tommy (soldier) who joined the army as a 19year old and joined the Warwickshire Yeomanry, and learnt to ride horses in the army.

The other book is about a woman who was faced with execution in Pakistan due to drinking a cup of water that she shouldn't have drunk and therefore being blastphemous, and another about a true life crime set in America where her 'best friends' murdered her.

I love true crime. If I am ever arrested in suspicion of murder the detectives will be sure to think I've done the crime if they see my reading library!! :) :)

If any of you live or work in the City (the latter applies to me) then you should really vist the library. http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/centrallibrary

I only just saw this (I was searching to see if I could find any other Library people on here-random I know) but I have to reply. I am a library geek and love the new Bham library. I'm local-ish (Glos) so can't visit too often but it's lovely to see some local authorities putting money into libraries (even though they're in debt...). Hope your books were good :)

Libraries, I used to scuttle away and hide in our school library at every chance when I was a schoolgirl, my favourite place in the whole world. I've got quite a library of my own at home now, a horsey one obviously, probably over 200 books, a few modern but mostly good old classics, fiction and non fiction.

I've just signed up to do a creative writing course at my local library, in Bath. Hoping to write a novel eventually based on a livery yard. Or mud. I could write a lot about mud.

I LOVE libraries-- all those wonderful books! I do like bookstores as well, but in libraries, no worry about spending a life's fortune on books to enjoy. I always have four or five books going at once-- love to read. Few things are as satisfying as opening up a new book and settling down for a nice read. I read just about anything except science fiction and law/crime/detective/mystery stuff. Although am currently reading Death Comes to Pemberly and enjoying it a lot.

Would love to hear how your creative writing class goes and how your novel progresses!

I've got a library right at the bottom of my road and also one right opposite where I work, so plenty of choice for me.

I don't get quite as excited about being in the library as I do when I get into bed at night and pick up my book!!

We (OH &I) are always in charity shops looking at books. Have read some brilliant books(last one a girl living in Afghanistan and her life under Taliban rule) books i may not have paid full price for but worth a couple quid.We take books back as well so they resell for charity :)

I could've written that first paragraph!*
Good luck on your course. Not sure mud as a subject though, however much there may be and however many shades it presents itself in ;)
Bath is lovely (went to Uni there) and I'm sure you'll never get stuck for locations or things or events to be creative over :)

For the first time in my life, I'm reading 3 things at once (or trying to!) although reading for my postgraduate dissertation doesn't count as if I let it take over, I'll never survive the task ahead!
Anyway, I'm trying to read Ring of Bright Water as a result of starting (and continuing) to read Otter Country. It's quite hard reading two things at once...*
