Who doesn't canter their horse out hacking in the winter? :o

One of my boys is very fresh and so I have come to the conclusion that I may have to accept over the winter months when he is in quite a lot, I might have to stick to walk and trot out of the school as canter is far too exciting! and the ground isn't very good either. My other boy, however is fine and we canter wherever the ground is suitable all year round.

I never canter out hacking - far too exciting....the brakes that we have in the school and at competitions somehow get forgotten, or he has a name change out hacking...'Me: B please slow down....B: B?? Who's B?? That isn't my name.....so weeeee off we go!'

I love a good mud plugging session with my girl in the winter!
its too hard in the summer

But I dont think you need to be burnt at the steak quite yet!!! As long as you and horse are happy and safe.

Canter whenever the ground and fitness allow, but mine don't spend too much time in and although exciteable aren't too prone to rodeo displays, so it's fine. You know your horse, so you're doing what's best for both of you where safety is concerned!

Incidentally, I have seen a lot of people over the years whose horses find it too exciting ALL year round!!!!!
