........who's ruddy horse refuses to go out in this weather and throws an oscar worthy tantrum if you do put her out in the field even for 5 mins.

She is a quirky so and so anyway in the field. She spends her whole time careering around even when she is out 24/7 in the summer.
At the moment, she simply refuses to stay out. She careers up and down the fence screeching and squeeling and generally being an arse and not in an over excited way, this is a "im really not going to stop this untill i a) come in, b) hurt myself, c)i jump the fence and bring myself in anyway" kind of way.
Today every time i turned my back to walk in from the field, i could hear her pushing on the fencing and i would turn around to see her pawing it in an attempt to pull it down. She was about to jump it at one point so i rugby tackeld her quickly (can be a bugger to catch) and brought her in.

Trundles in happy as larry and is happy as a pig in ***** when she is in.

So....(due to her having done tendons in the past etc and pulling her self to pieces overreaching and cutting her legs up and the fact that we are 18 inches deep in snow and ice thats never going to thaw its so quick) she is in quite a bit and her excercise is a mosey round the school in hand for 10 mins or so which is keeping me fit anyway.
Personally i want her out a bit more, but she just refuses point blank to accept being out.

She is a 16yo tb mare....but not your typical tb at all. If you dont ride her for a week she doesnt get silly, if she is in like at the mo and when we had the previous icy conditions, she doesnt hot up, she is level headed and sane and wonderfull in every way apart from in the field, i dont get it at all!!

has anyone else got this problem???????????

one of my old neds used to take the wooden 5 bar gate clean off hte hinges and return himself to his stable.. I gave up in the end, would go up open stable door if he wanted to go out he just wandered about then came back if not hed just look at me laugh and go back to his hay!

mine aren't too chuffed at having their jammies removed and being turned out either! Mine are all OAps and would much prefer to stay indoors and listen to Radio 2, thankyou very much. they are turned out for about 2 hours and Im sure they are trying out various poses to have me arrested by the local RSPCA...miserable looking sods!!!!

Dante has started bringing himself in - he now gets to STAY in, with hay and his treat ball, and being lunged, and he seems quite content. He will go out when we get a random warmer day (well, if!) when he's less likely to complain!

My 30 yo pony mare would rather stay in she hates it out in the winter but i make her stay out for the day mach to her disgust as she has COPD and reli should be living out!!! :)

B just stands and either chests or paws at the gate so he is staying in and being walked in hand twice a day. I can't see the point in leaving him out and him likely injuring himself, he has already got his leg through the gate once and bent it in his panic. He is as happy as a pig in **** in his stable and will go out again once the weather inproves.

Yes, my TB gelding is just the same. He walks the fence as soon as he's had enough (usually only 15 minutes). But I make him stay out 2 hours as my mare loves being out and needs the company. In the summer when it's warm he will stay out 24/7 no problems.

Thank the lord its not just me!! i keep seeing posts about horses happy as can be out in the snow and was starting to worry about mine!!
she is a liability to herself leaving her out at the mo! mind you, lots going on in the stables, the radio, the cats, the dogs, hay, nice warm straw, etc etc, i can see her point! i dont see many of the more "mature" people who live on my estate venturing out sledging or playing snowballs so i guess its the same with more mature horses....they like their creature comforts!!!
