hates snack ball type things?

They drive me mad, banging about in the stables with them, I'm sure it's no good for their legs either.
I know a highland pony that actually smashed one to pieces by stamping on it, he got a bit of plastic stuck in his foot

We have one at work that has the nut one. It takes him about 2 mins to get all of it out as he gets it in a corner and spins it till they all come out.
We did have a horse on livery that had the carrot one but it was so bloody noisey (his stable backs on to the house) and he was on box rest with a fractured petal bone we decided it wasn't good for him or us so it was taken away.

Pedantic I love the vid,

When I first gave my horse a nut ball he didn't know what to do with. But now he loves it. At my last yard it like listening to mini football team crashing and banging as 7 horses in a row had them. At my friends yard they are not allowed because of the noise.

I dont like stable toys, but my riggy TB plays with my OH's watering can when he is tied up

So my mum gave me a snack ball for him, cept I am a meany an didn't put treats in it

I also got him a horse ball (cost me £20!!

I should have just bought OH a new watering can!!

Now to hear a yard full of horses contentedly munching haynets big enough to last them all night, that's a lovely sound can we go back to that please?

Yes my thoughts exactly

Mine gets aggressive with his once its empty. Last time he pushed it into a corner and stood bucking at it (naturally hitting the god damn concrete wall more than the ball).

So, no, not a huge fan

He has an enormous rock salt lick and thats about it

Nah got to disagree with you all, my horse loves his but he doesn't bash it with his feet he just rolls it around with his mouth - believe me it's better than him banging his door!

mine would never have one.....

encourages "habitual" behaviour IMO....

What theyve never had they wont miss!!!

Mine only get the snack ball on special occasions, box rest, in to wait for a vetting, that sort of thing. Not everyday, more once in a blue moon

I bought one for my mare when she was on box rest but she didn't understand what is was for and tried eating the ball instead so it's now gathering dust in the feed room

What's wrong with a nice big haynet?

[/ QUOTE ]

Hate them!!!Noisy things, make an even bigger mess of their bed than they do already, lol!!Pony on our yard has one and it must drive him insane as there is always one stuck in the bottom in the morn that he cant get out, poor bugger must be well peeved, lol!!

Spring gets her snackball at night and keeps her amused for about half an hour, but I have to say she is really delicate and gentle with it. She barely moves it and uses her nose and hoof very gently to move it the smallest distance possible to minimise effort! Those that bang and crash around are quite annoying, but I think if it keeps them entertained and doesn't break then it has to be a good thing?

Spring does get a big haynet and carrots/swedes in her stable too - I guess she is just very spoilt!

I got my boy one of those likkit things that screws to the wall at head height and you put 2 likkits in back to back and the middle sort of twirls round and round as the horse tries to lick the likkits. It fixes totally flat to the wall and is as solid as a rock. 3 Xmases ago, me and OH were on a nice Madeira & Canaries Xmas and New Year cruise, so stuck in the middle of the Atlantic, no phone communication. When we got back, my poor boy was in Dursley Equine Hospital in the early stages of what ended up as having to have his eye removed. Something had happened in his stable Boxing Day night. When I finally got round to inspecting his stable for clues (as it was critical that we knew what had happened) I found his twirly wall likkit in pieces and smashed off the wall. If you've ever seen them, you wouldn't think this was possible. Did he get his tongue/mouth caught in it and panic? Did something else startle him and he crashed into it? We'll never know but my point is that ANY "equipment" left with a horse in a stable has the potential to cause the most terrible accidents so please take care. My wonderful one eyed boy now enjoys huge haynets (as people have said) and now and then a swede or a cabbage just on the floor {{{sighs at sadness of eye loss}}}

linx has a large haynet @ night & a horselyx but he also has p.nuts in his treat toy, he only nudges it with his nose & he rolls it around for 5mins then leaves it & goes back to his feed or haynet, i 'refill' it with a handful of food every other day.
