Am I the only person who's fussy about what whip they use...?

I'm extremely fussy when it comes to grips on whips, is anyone else like me or am I "odd"?

I must have a decent grip on it, and I can't borrow anyone elses one, and I get quite peeed off when I loose a whip which I liked quite a lot

And I also have quite expensive taste which isn't a good thing since I tend to loose mine a lot...

So do you care about the grip on your whip or will any old whip do you? I'm also fussy about colour, I only own red, brown, or dark blue whips

Don't talk, my daughter has her lucky whip, her whip I used the first time on my horse, the hacking whip, the whip that matches a particular numnah, and finally her falling apart mended 3 times, trod on loads of times whip that she won at a show!! In fact looking in her tack room it looks like she has a whip fetish, which is a bit worrying as she is only 14!
 
I used to think the brown whip I had , was a good luck thing , I lost it , and started to do real bad in the showjumping, knocking a pole, Think it was to do with me not being strong enough coming into fences , that was with Minstrel one on the end of my sig x

Only do browns and blacks :P
 
I have two whips that i'm a bit particular about! I have a short schooling whip as Darce doesn't like being unexpectedly ticked and I have a jumping one for XC which matches our colours.
I have a short funky one and a long funky schooling one but i'm not that fussed about them.

I used to, and used to be quite picky...it had to have a sturdy grip, and a decent 'whippy' action, but found it affected the way Bo goes....and so just stopped carrying it. Trike wouldn't careless if you carried one or not, so again, i don't bother

With the new rules for BSJA, there's not much you can do to use one now anyway

I always look for the wobble factor ( the amount or flex the stick part has ) i don like stiff ones so i stand in a shop and waggle them to see if they suitable wobble to suit.

I like my short fat jump stick for sj and xc as its easy to manage and have a schooling one but rarly use it as horse is nautrally foward and a slappy stick.

I prefur the ones that have fat ends as they create more noise than pain and thats usally enought to give her that warning not to push her luck anymore.
 
I don't carry a whip for PF or A, and am not fussy at all when it comes to other horses. C, however, likes a whip to have a big 'knob' (

I'm very particular! I have one I love that I go from a mobile tack unit at southview years ago! It's still going strong but I decided I wanted another and it took me ages to find one similar enough that I can use it!
 
I hate very stiff schooling whips. My two are very bendy. All my whips have to have a rubbery grip that is fairly thick, or I drop them. Plus an end, as I have putting rein stops on the ends of whips! I have a "normal" sized schooling one (very bendy, nice and whippy for whacking on my chaps), a hugely long schooling one (good tickler) and a short whip for jumping that I don't use as I jump with my shorter schooling whip! I will use my other one when I finally get to go XC. But yes, I am fussy!
 
Only whip I have used in the last year is hunting whip, I honestly feel odd when I am holding one, I cant really ride with one, with Oshk I dont need one, with Will I do, but I cant, if you understand me..

I can't stand thinish gripped whips either, I like something with a chunky grip.
 

You are not alone! I have 2 whips, my schooling whip and my short jumping whip both are years old (I put them well away when not in use so they don't get "borrowed". When I jumped many years ago I never ever used the schooling whip but for the past 3 or 4 years the jumping whip has been at the bottom of my box. I love my schooling whip and think it's length is a bit of a "security blanket" for me. I can use it on the roads to keep cars away and in the school it lies nicely over my leg.

I have a sponsored ride Sat where max whip length is 30 inches - horror as schooling whip is nearer 40. I have spent the last 2 weeks riding and hacking with the short jumping whip (22 inches) and I hate it! The grip is fine but it's just not long enough!
 
I can have a short whip which isn't the same all the way up (I hate those with the grip, then the black ring, then the rest of the whip).
 
I usually carry a schooling stick - needs to have a good grippy handle, I buy burgundy or blue or something so it doesnt get mixed up with everyone elses black ones - but have been riding with jump whip recently and keep flicking it like a schooling whip and smacking myself on the leg.... ouch....
 
Yes..Oh bought me a Fleck schooling whip, I'm now devoted and everything else seems out of balance (you should be able to balance the whip on a finger just belwo the grip if it's in balance)
 
Thankfully its not just me who finds it hard to ride with one then

I do have a short one for SJ but only if its a particularly hard course and someone always just hands it to me as I walk into the ring

I'm fussy about mine. I finally got one I love out of Holmestead one day, a nice long (not schooling/dressage long!) chunky great grip whip. And no stupid handloop!

However, I was atking people to a course in work and it has been lost since. So either it fell out of the car (where I always keep it) or one of those naughty minxes has stolen it!

I`m fussy as well, I don`t like ones that are too short.

My own one that I had for ages went on walk abouts so I use SH owners one. I always ride with one but don`t really use it.
 
Have 2 of my own - short jumping one and my schooling one

Hate riding with anyone else's as primarily the schooling whips at the yard are either broken or are falling apart. The jumping ones are those longer, thiner end ones whereas mine's a much shorter with a larger leather bit AND it's got decent grip on it

So yes, I'm picky too

I have small hands so don't like whips with really thick grips as a lot of the riding school horses have thick rubber reins and I can't hold them and a big whip. I have a green schooling whip and a short stick for hacking which has a really nice grip and a proper leather bit!
 
I am not at all, mainly because I constantly loose mine leave it in random places! So lots of the time I just pick one out of the RS whip box! most of those are slightly broken
 
Yep, I'm very particular about whips >< I hate those really really short ones, I only ever use a normal length one or a schooling whip, and it has to have a grippy bit, and as PF so charmingly put it, a knob on the end xD
 
Yes, I am fussy about my schooling whip.... I wont use the type with the thin bit of cord on the end - they make too much of a swooshy noise for me, I prefer the type with the leather fold-over end, like the short whips. They make more of a wet slap noise and dont swoosh!
