Hi all,
So I'm treating myself to a share and came across a perfect one. The horse was at previous yard so I'm already quite familiar with him.

However, I'm 5"2 or 3 and weigh just under 7 stones and he is 13.1hh
Am I sutiable to ride him? I told the owner when I first messaged her and we're going to discuss in a call but at the same time I don't want to get my hopes up

I have a Dartmoor who's 12hh & I weigh 49kg. I used her as my main horse for a bit as everything else I owned was on the sick list...!! We went to dr clinics & polework clinics, I taught her to jump... My size and weight wasn't an issue.

I would say unless he is a very fine sort, you would be fine. I'm 5'4'' and weigh about 9st- my current pony was sold to me as 14hh but in reality may be a little smaller and is not super chunky, I've ridden a range of 13.2s and felt comfortable.

Ultimately, a lot depends on the horse and you- if you feel top heavy/unbalanced and uncomfortable then he's not the right pony for you.

Also think about how you fit in the saddle- if it's a saddle designed for children, it may not work well for you for long periods!

On paper, OP, you'd be fine. Wishfilly makes a couple of good points re saddle and general balance.

Same height as you, 60kg ish, currently backing a Chunky 13.2. He’s a cob though, and built like a tank from the way he drags me about the yard. I don’t plan to do much with him, though. Maybe just some fun hacking.

I think that you should be OK, weight/height/pony size.
Unless you're planning on doing speed/endurance/cross country stuff immediately.

Yeah I had a call with the owner and we think he'll be fine with me and we settled on doing

He is a little on the fine sort.. but it really seems to be a way to go with the owner. We had a little discussion and because I know him, the yard as well as have a few hacking buddies she feels comfortable with me. Just need to see if she'll go through with the other girl first ?

Have you ever sat on him? I think that's the only way to find out if you are comfortable. I'm sure he'll be fine to carry you, but if you feel like there's not enough horse under you/in front of you you won't enjoy riding him.

Honestly, I love a pony though, the best ponies are worth their weight in gold!

And I'm sure you wouldn't think anything of a 7st child riding him!

Not right now no, I really hope he'd be fine with me he should hopefully as I'm just below make the 7st mark plus I'm quite insecure of my weight but weight is definitely everyone needs to consider if they're riding ? we're going to calling tomorrow to see if he's still available ?

Sorry think I sent my reply too soon lol! Yeah she said she wants the potential sharer to do a little bit of jumping since he gets excited but doesn't want his talent to go to waste which I'm confident with that and probably slowly build up to XC if I'm suitable enough for him since they've got a XC course at the yard!
