I'm just wondering what the consensus is re clipping at this time of year? My mares had quite some time off over Winter so far, so I didn't bother to clip her. Now she's very woolly and now I'm starting to do a bit more with her is just getting too hot. I think because it's been so mild though, she's already started to lose her winter coat a bit. I don't really know if it's a bit late for clipping if she's already started this??
Thanks for any advice in advance!
:)

A lot of people clip all year round with no ill effects, thinking eventers and showjumpers etc. I always thought the end of February was sort of the cut off point if you are going to be anal about it. However it depends on the weather as that is what determines coat growth (that and daylight etc). I shall be clipping my horse at the end of Feb, but will do a full clip including legs to avoid those clip lines that take ages to moult out. Plus he also has some ugly clip marks on his stifles, hocks and tendons from his spell at the vets, the stifle patches were done 10 weeks ago and look like they were done yesterday so clipping out all over is the best way to make that look better.

the light after 5 or 6 at night isnt great to clip by! i would advise to do this in daylight when you have the time free!!! go ahead and clip. it wont affect/effect??? the summer coat. i would advise a hunter or full clip just to eliminate the moult! obvs rug appropriately to your local weather and the horse in question..
