Am i too trusting or just mad?

I love my horse to bits, like most people

the trouble is he has a tendency to kick, he has never kicked me, but has kicked a friend twice, once was when i first got him and she came up behind him n touched his bum unexpectedly, which was her own fault, another time was when he was being stupid he spooked while being led by her and somehow kicked her in the chest. she was fine.

people are always wary of him but have got better as he hasnt kicked in a while, he will kick a horse if he feels threatened though. but has got much better with people, ok back to the question, when i groom him and just generally be around him i go near his backend stand there put my head right by his legs as i groom them n hug his bum

and think anything of it, people think im crazy but he has never done anything to hurt me and generally doesnt act nasty towards me, i trust him so much, am i too trusting or just crazy?

i also think he thinks its funny because if a nervous person walks behind him he will look at them and swish his tail and it makes them walk faster behind them

but i do love him

Well I think there has to be an element of trust to some extent and you have to make a point that you are not scared, horses are clever creatures and will pick up on if you fanny around them in case they kick, but please please do keep a an eye on him at all times, dont put your head where he could strike out and catch your head, some horses are shifty characters, I know this because my own horse is.

At least if he does kick, its in th leg or catchs an arm, if you get caught in the head, it could kill you or re-arrange your face and look like you've had ten rounds with Mike Tyson!....not a good look!

Never ever fully trust a known kicker, carry on doing what you do but do keep your wits about you and your head out of the way!

he hasnt got back shoes on, which is a good thing, he has settled in much better now so doesnt feel the need to kick, he has also been told off if he threatens to and this has worked as he doesnt threaten as much unless he actually means it which is normally towards another horse, i think he has trusting issues because we have reason to believe he has been mistreated.

I still stand by what I say, despite him getting better, which is good and he'll probablystop doing it which is good, but still please be careful, still can catch you off guard, even if there agression is aimed at another horse that maybe in the stable next him.

while in the stable he cannot see another horse as there is a pipe in between his stable and the next. i dont literally stand with my head in between his legs i stand at the side and bend down, but thank you lol we are working together and he is much more better now, we have a bond which i dont think he has had with many people before hence the mistreated part. But with time and effort he has become perfect, the odd little moment no where near as bad.
