We have a Cob mare, she's 15y old and today we noticed that one that is very large compared to the other one. Our part loan is a small animal vet and I had her examine the teat, there's no discharge, no obvious bug bite wounds. There is no heat/swelling and she wasnt unduly worried about it being handled. Up above the teat there is a fist sized lump - firm feeling. Have called the vet and he's coming to the yard in the morning. She seems absolutely fine in herself - she's behaving normally in every way.

Am now feeling a bit sick with worry incase it's anything sinister.

Sorry no photos as if forgotten my phone.

It could very well be a horsefly bite. You should see how I swell up as a result of one and insects love to target the boobies. If you are open to homeopathy try Apis Mel 30c 2 or 3 times a day for a few days. I always take it for myself and it works wonders, way better than any antihistamine.
